Job DescriptionSHA Senior Huntington’s Disease SpecialistLocation:GrampianJob Title:Senior Huntington’s Disease Specialist (SHDS) Accountable to:SHA Board of Directors via the Chief ExecutiveReport to:Team Leader & SHA Operation’s Manager Hours:36hrsSalary:?33,298- ?36,248 pro rataJob SummaryThe primary function is to facilitate quality care for those with HD and their families through specialist assessment, planning, coordination, and implementation. You will also provide training and education for other health and social care professionals.As a member of the SHA multidisciplinary team, you will be based in at the Clinical Genetics Centre, Ashgrove House, Foresterhill, Aberdeen, AB25 2ZA. (However due to Covid -19 restrictions all staff currently home based). The post holder will provide management, support and supervision to the admin / resource worker. Operational areas of the service include overall management responsibility for the Grampian service overseeing the direct provision of services to families, and promotion of self-help amongst families.In addition, the Senior HDS will work with the Team leader & Operations Manager to develop the HD specialist service.You must be a full member of a professional body relevant to qualification and work within the scope of registration guidelines.Main Duties and ResponsibilitiesTo undertake specialist assessment of need using a holistic approach.Undertake care planning and care coordination with each individual and their family to meet their needs.Provide specialist advice and information to people with HD and their families about their condition and its management.To liaise with other professionals to appropriately signpost individuals to the services to which they are entitled e.g., advocacy, respite, welfare rights community and health services.To provide support to existing SHA family groups, to act as a resource for group members, to facilitate.Support the formation of new groups as appropriate, while recognising the local family groups’ independence from the HD specialist service.To liaise with all local HD specialist team members keeping them abreast of activities at a local, regional, and national level.To provide leadership within the project, managing the whole of the project effectively for the duration of the project.To provide support, supervision, and appraisal to the admin/resource worker.To promote shared ownership of the project, its ethos, policies, and practices.To facilitate quarterly management meetings and produce all relevant reports for those meetings.To work in close collaboration with SHA Financial Officer Education and trainingTo facilitate training at a local level and frequently participate in national training events.To promote awareness of the needs and challenges facing HD individuals,families, and care providers, through the provision of education and information.To participate in the production of educational literature concerning HD.To maintain professional awareness of current trends and practices, through appropriate training courses, study days and workshops.Research and developmentTo initiate, participate and coordinate research projects related to HD at local level.To be a key player in the strategic planning and development of appropriate Health and Social Services at a local level.To undertake surveys and audits of the work of the service of the HD specialist service.Policy and service developmentTo adhere to all SHA policies appropriate to own role and the role of the team. May at times propose policy or service changes and have a good understanding of how those policies will affect both local and regional development.AdministrationResponsible for the maintenance of stock control / authorised signatory for agreed claims including travel claims of all staff.To ensure the maintenance of full and accurate confidential records concerning the work of the HD specialist service within the operational area.This job description may be subject to review following discussion with the post holder and Management of the SHA.The duties and responsibilities of the post will be undertaken in accordance with the policies procedures and practices of the SHA.Jan 2021EssentialDesirableQualificationsRegistered Nurse or AHP qualified to degree level.Specialist practitionerQualification Management experienceClinical and interpersonalVery skilled in ability to carry out complex specialistInterpersonalassessment and interpretation followed by appropriate action.
