Day 27

LOVE: GET CLOSE TO EACH OTHER!

• WE ARE NOT JUST CLUB MEMBERS IN A “CHURCH DIRECTORY”

GOD’S WORD: Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. (Romans 12:4-5, NIV)

REFLECTION-DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:

1. What does this mean to me: “all true believers form one body in Christ”?

2. What are some different “roles I might fill and functions I might feel called to perform” in the body of Christ?

3. What does this mean to me: “each member belongs to all the others”?

• WE WERE “BORN-AGAIN” WITH FORGIVENESS AND THE HOLY SPIRIT

GOD’S WORD: “Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus,

whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ.”

When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?”

Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call.”

With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, “Save yourselves from this corrupt generation.”

Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day. (Acts 2:36-41, NIV)

REFLECTION-DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:

1. What is the connection between ones being “saved” and also “becoming part of God’s family”?

2. What does this mean and to whom does it apply: “You crucified Jesus!”?

3. What does this mean: “God made Jesus both Lord and Christ!”?

4. What does this mean: “They were cut to the heart”?

5. What is both the context and meaning of this question: “What shall we do?”

6. What two commandments are true believers to obey when they are “cut to the heart” with deep personal conviction about the deep personal meaning of Jesus’ death and resurrection?

7. What are the two promises offered to obedient believers everywhere who are coming to Jesus by faith?

8. What would be an incorrect interpretation of the command: “Save yourselves!”?

9. What might be viewed as a correct interpretation of the command: “Save yourselves!”?

10. How do true believers demonstrate their open profession of faith in Jesus as “Lord and Christ”?

11. Is “Christian baptism” a command, a promise or both a command and promise?

• WE ARE A DEVOTED FAMILY IN THE LORD JESUS CHRIST

GOD’S WORD: They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to the fellowship,

to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe, and many wonders and miraculous signs were done by the apostles.

All the believers were together and had everything in common. Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people.

And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved. (Acts 2:42-47, NIV)

REFLECTION-DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:

1. What does it mean for a Christ-follower to be “devoted”?

2. What does it mean to be “devoted to the apostles’ teaching”?

3. What does it mean to be “devoted to the fellowship”?

4. What does it mean to be “devoted to the breaking of bread”?

5. What does it mean to be “devoted to prayer”?

6. What does it mean to be “filled with awe”?

7. Do I have reason to expect the Lord still performs “wonders and miraculous signs” among His people?

8. What does this mean: “All the believers were together”?

9. What does this mean: “All the believers had everything in common”?

10. What is the significance of the earliest Christ-followers’ “Selling their possessions and goods, giving to anyone as he had need”?

11. How frequently did the earliest disciples “continue to meet together”?

12. What were the two places where the earliest disciples “met together”?

13. What two things did the earliest disciples do “in their homes”?

14. What three spiritual qualities did the earliest disciples have which proved to be very attractive to unbelievers?

15. What was the nature and incredible impact of the earliest community of Jesus upon their unbelieving neighbors?

• WE CAN BECOME “DEVOTED AND INFLUENTIAL” CHRIST-FOLLOWERS

THE INFLUENCE OF OUR COMMUNITY OF FAITH IS WHAT “WE MAKE IT”:

1. If it is a "growing church"… it is because we meet regularly with our church family to learn from God’s Word and we invite others to join us as well.

2. If it is a "friendly church"… it is because we are friendly and make others feel accepted.

3. If it is a "scriptural church"… it is because we settle for nothing less than following God’s word.

4. If it is a "giving church"… it is because we give sacrificially out of a heart of love.

5. If it is a "praying church"… it is because we regularly and consistently pray for our congregation, its leaders, its ministries and those lost outside of a personal relationship with Christ.

6. If it is a "spiritual church"… it is because we walk daily in the Spirit, live in the power of the Spirit and reflect the nature of Christ.
