Choir Performance Outfits / Part 1 of 2

Oak Park High School Choral Music Department

Dear Choir Students and Parents: 2017-18

After competing in the Southern California Vocal Association Festival at Disneyland, we observed that all of the other high school choirs in the area were wearing matching formal attire. As our choral program has matured, we have also reached the point where our appearance needed a more mature and professional touch. Therefore, each choir member is asked to purchase an outfit that will be worn at all choir events and it is theirs to keep and have for each year that they remain in choir at OPHS.

The choir outfits for the women were brand new three years ago. The style consists of a washable, black, v-neck, wrinkle-resistant floor-length dress, with a cummerbund that ties in back, black dress shoes (heels are not suggested due to extended periods of standing), and knee-length nylon stockings. The men are required to wear black dress slacks, a black (matte) dress long-sleeved shirt, black tie, black socks and black dress shoes. The men are expected to purchase/wear their own dress slacks, black dress shirt, black shoes and black dress shoes.

The women have been fitted for their choir dress during class. What we need at this time is for your son/daughter to turn in a check to me, Mrs. Cissell, by Friday, September 8 !!!. The cost for the choir gown is $70.00. Please remind your daughter that she will need to have her Student ID with her when turning in the check to the Student Store. Checks should be made out to OPHS ASB, with a notation on the bottom of “Choir Outfits.” Outfits cannot be ordered until ALL of the money has been received from ALL of the female choir students. Please, please turn in your money on time so that we will have our new choir dresses on time for our holiday concert and so that there will be enough time to do an alterations on the hems, if needed. We are working to supply a professional seamstress to attend our Choir Outfit Check Day and Time, that you can directly pay for any alterations that need to be done on your son/daughter’s choir outfits. IF YOU ARE BORROWING A DRESS FROM A FORMER CHOIR MEMBER, PLEASE LET ME KNOW THAT INFORMATION. DO NOT PAY UNTIL I HAVE SENT THIS LETTER HOME A SECOND TIME OR HAVE LET YOUR

DAUGHTER KNOW THAT YOU CAN PAY NOW.

Please remember that your son/daughter will have to provide their own black dress shoes;

A. The girls shoes need to be a pump style shoe with a closed toe.

B. The men must provide their own black dress socks and black dress shoes.

**ALTERATIONS:

1. You are responsible for any alterations that may need to be done by yourself or through the seamstress that we will provide.

2. Do not cut hems of dresses, please fold them under when sewing hems. This allows room for growth throughout your daughter’s years in choir at OPHS as well as the opportunity to sell your dress in the future.

3 . After your choir dress is hemmed, the hem must be ironed down, so that no hem shows. The same

applies for the men’s slacks.

Additional Information:

Girls will be required to wear their hair in buns at each performance. The bun level should be in alignment with your ears. If bangs are long, they need to be swept above your eyebrow. The Choir Leadership moms will kept the girls to figure out how to do this.

If you have any questions or concerns, or if you feel that this purchase will create a financial burden or if you cannot pay by Friday, September 8, would you please email me at hcissell@ or nozewiggle@. – Heidi Cissell, OPHS Choir Director

Choir Outfit - Part 2

Outfit Details and the “Choir Outfit Check” Notice

Important: During their class time, all students will be notified of a “Choir Outfit Check” date and time where EVERY choir student must bring in and try on their full choir outfit (socks, shoes included) in order to ensure that every aspect of their choir “outfit” is correct. This includes checking hems of slacks and dresses. The “Choir Outfit Check” will be scheduled separate from class time.

The date of the “Choir Outfit Check” will not be set until all of the newly ordered choir outfits have been received and an ample amount of time has been given to purchase items and/or make any alterations. We will email all choir students and parents when the date and time will be for this outfit.

**This is part of each Choir Student’s Attitude/Participation Grade and can lower a grade by 10 points, if students are NOT dressed properly for their performances and may result in dismissing them from performing altogether. An example is that Disneyland will NOT allow students to perform on stage if they DO NOT have the proper clothing or shoes.
