Program Goal

Medical Marijuana is becoming more available in the Avera footprint. A multidisciplinary group of physicians and pharmacists from Avera Health have come together to offer recommendations and information that is rooted in science, evidence and data.

Objectives

1 Define what marijuana is 2 Discuss how marijuana can be used 3 Review the effect marijuana can have on other medications 4 Discuss common side effects of marijuana use 5 Review known contraindications for marijuana use 6 Identify preliminary list of conditions for medical marijuana use in South Dakota 7 Describe efficacy of medical marijuana as an antiemetic 8 Describe efficacy of medical marijuana with appetite stimulation 9 Describe efficacy of medical marijuana use in patients with glaucoma 10 Describe efficacy of medical marijuana use in patients with epilepsy 11 Describe efficacy of medical marijuana use as an analgesic 12 Describe efficacy of medical marijuana use in patients with PTSD 13 Describe efficacy of medical marijuana use in patients with Crohn's Disease 14 Describe efficacy of medical marijuana use in patients with Multiple Sclerosis

Outcome

100% of participants will demonstrate their knowledge of medical marijuana by passing a post test with a score of 80% or better.

Target Audience

Professions ? Physician, Nurse - RN, Social Worker, Pharmacist, Nurse - Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant, Nurse -LPN/LVN Specialties ? All members of the healthcare team that will certify patients or help manage medical marijuana for patients

Accreditation & Credit Designation

Physicians Avera is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. Avera designates this educational activity for a maximum of 1.00 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits(s)TM. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Nurses (NCPD) Avera is accredited as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation. A total of 1.00 contact hours can be received upon completion of this education activity. Attendance at the entire educational activity is required to receive contact hours.

Social Workers Avera Health Provider #1029 is an approved provider of continuing education by the South Dakota Board of Social Work Examiners. Social Workers will receive 1.00 continuing education clock hours for participating in this course.
