The rainy season must last 6–9 months and deliver 2500 mm of rainfall unless supplemented by irrigation. Planting is on the flat, or on ridges 70–100 cm apart. Intercropping between coconut and oil palms, fruit trees, coffee or cocoa is common. Mulching is necessary, as is weed control during the first three months until the canopy closes. ................
