A Message from our Principal
Dear French Run families,
I can’t believe it’s almost 2012. This year is flying by. I want to wish all of you happy and safe holidays filled with fun and extra time to spend with your family. The best family activity I know of is reading together. Reading stretches a child’s imagination far more than watching movies. Go to the library, get holiday stories and poems.
We will be sending home the Winter Break Principal Homework. Please look for it in the Thursday folders. Please read 15 minutes at least 8 out of the 10 days of break. Students will earn a prize when they turn it in the week back from break. Due date is January 4th. I would love to give each student at French Run a prize!
Wish you all happy holidays.
Ms. Burns

Dress for the Weather
[pic]
Please remember that students need coats, hats, gloves, and (sometimes) boots on a daily basis. Students will have recess on the playground nearly every day. Parents should plan for their children to go outside unless the temperature is below 15 degrees. Be sure to dress them warmly.
Please keep in mind, students are not allowed in the building until 8:05am. They have to wait outside until the doors open. Please do not bring children early because they must wait unsupervised in the cold.

The Mobile Dentist is coming!
The Mobile Dentist will visit French Run on January 13, 2012. Look for forms coming home with your student soon. Please complete and return to school by Dec. 19, 2011 in order to take advantage of this opportunity. Cleaning, X-rays, exams & sealants are done right here at school and a report is sent home to you. Each student that participates gets a new toothbrush.

Trophies in our Display case
The months of November and December are designated as the months 4th graders can bring in trophies, awards, etc. to put in our display case. Please be sure your child’s name is on it somewhere. We will return these in the beginning of January.
Dismissal
Your child is learning up until the bell rings at 2:40 everyday. Please limit early dismissals to doctor’s appointments and emergencies only. Early dismissals will be considered unexcused otherwise.
PTA Spotlight
We are beginning to build a brand new PTA. We are looking for people to help. We will need help with COSI, fundraisers, parties, field day and many activities throughout the year.
We are also collecting Box Tops for Education. Our goal for this year is to collect 15,000 box tops (approximately 37 per student). By reaching this goal, we earn $1,500 for our school. Please send them to school in a bag or envelope marked with teacher name.
We invite you to join us for our next meeting on Monday, December 5th at 6:30 pm in the Multipurpose Room to learn about more great things going on at French Run.
VOLUNTEER POLICY
As a reminder, everyone who comes in to the school and works with children one-on-one must be fingerprinted. We have volunteer packets in the office, but you must go to Central Office to be fingerprinted. It takes 2-6 weeks for results to come in, so please get fingerprinted early, so that you are not disappointed on the day you want to come in or go on a field trip with your student. If you have been fingerprinted in the last 5 years, you do NOT need to be again.
Absences/Early Dismissals/Change of Transportation
Please be sure to call the attendance line (367-1972) prior to 8:30 a.m. or use (frattendance@ ) each day your child is absent from school or will arrive late. You should indicate your child’s name, teacher’s name and the reason for his/her absence. Also please forward a note to the teacher when your child returns to school.
We discourage early dismissals, but when your child must leave early for an appointment, please send a written note to the teacher the morning he/she will leave early. In addition, if your child will not go home in the normal manner at the end of the school day, please send a signed note to their teacher indicating the change for that day.

Update from the Cafeteria
Hello from the French Run Cafeteria. I hope your children enjoyed the turkey luncheon that we had in November. There will be a change in the menu starting on November 28th. Instead of pepperoni bread sticks, we will have turkey pepperoni calzones. The kids really like them. Also, just a reminder that the students can choose to have a peanut butter and jelly Uncrustable in place of the main entrée each day. They get a full meal including side dishes and milk. The price is the same as what they usually pay for lunch. Have a wonderful December.

NOTES FROM THE NURSE
Holiday season is upon us! Here are some tips to stay healthy during this time of year:
If your doctor recommends a flu shot, get it as soon as possible.
Make sure to get enough sleep, especially on school nights!
Use lotion and chapstick to combat winter dryness.
Remember to wash hands frequently to prevent the spread of germs.
Make sure to get enough fruits and vegetables along with all those holiday goodies.
Keep ill students home until they are fever, vomit & diarrhea free for 24 hours.
In Good Health!
