‘Heart to Heart’ Among Women

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Oct. 19, 2006) − Of all the heart-to-heart conversations among women, one of the most important could be the impact of heart disease, the number-one killer of women over 25 years old.

The next Heart to Heart lecture is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 14, at 6:30 p.m. at the Northside branch of the Lexington Public Library. Dr. Alison Bailey, a cardiologist at the UK HealthCare Linda and Jack Gill Heart Institute, will be talking about how heart disease affects women, including symptoms, prevention and treatment.

The conversation is for both women and men. Heart disease kills nearly half a million women each year, or one in every 2.6 women. Symptoms can be different from those typically experienced by men; women may or may not experience chest pain. Instead, they may notice flu-like symptoms, such as nausea, cold sweats, lightheadedness and trouble breathing, along with discomfort in the arms, back, neck, jaw or stomach.
