Month 1, Meeting 4 of our new president—Frank “Waterboy” Vallejo.

We got that “Look” again this morning from our president. It must be because the Dodgers are doing so well.

Note to prez. Look up the Seattle Mariners record in 2001. Graham can take a look too.

Movie Night:

Deb announced that we have an August movie date:

• Logan Lucky

• August 21st—6:30pm; Livermore Cinemas[pic]

• $20 (includes jr. size popcorn –with real butter)

BUT: only 30 tickets sold so far—NEED TO STEP IT UP

• Speaking of Stepping It Up—Thanks to Ken McCarthy step up to take the Director of Community Service role!!

Bob Barker was here today dressed as 1/4Man. After donating a $20 spot in honor of Lori’s fundraiser for Marylin Avenue School, he culled out about a $100 from our pocketbooks. Notable donors were Lori, Rosemary, Charles, Dick Q. Josh and Sam Steele

New Blue Badge: Eric Dillie. It only took him about a year and a half, but who’s counting? Welcome Mr. Dillie!!!

Roy again touted the Business Recognition Program. Still many unanswered questions, but the club is 100% behind the project. Stay Tuned.

• Interested in hearing Congressmen Eric Swalwell speak? He will be at the Livermore Noon Club on August 16—trying to get all Livermore Rotarians to one meeting.

Dave, Ken, and Paul Thompson are sponsoring a fun(d)raiser to help the Nepalese Children’s Fund on September 16th. See flyer at the end of this blurb.

RANDOM THOUGHTS FROM MY CORNER OF THE WORLD:

1. I see that Spike Lee is organizing a rally in front of the NFL offices in NYC to protest no team has hired Colin Kaepernick this year. I guess he’s thinking there is collusion against this athlete because of his kneeling during the national anthem. I actually think this protest will backfire. Some may think that these owners have refused to hire Kaepernick so far because of the distraction he may cause. That may be true but I think it is deeper than this. When Kaepernick wore socks that depicted the police as pigs I believe this went over the line with the owners. And this past June, responding to a jury verdict that acquitted a police officer of manslaughter, Kaepernick tweeted a message that equated modern day police to 19th century slave catchers. And now S. Lee expects a rally to change the owners’ opinions? I think it will do just the opposite—harden the owners’ resolve. Gib and I have a wager on this. Keep track

2. Best name on the Giants—Ryder Jones . Hope this guy can play into his name.

3. Watched the final Little League Intermediate World Series game on Sunday. I don’t know where they got the home plate umpire from, but he was atrocious. Felt sorry for the kids. They deserved much better.

4. Geez, the Waterboy must be one heck of a boss. His “Robin” (Josh) went on vacation and he actually told him to have a good time and not think about work. Pretty impressive.

5. You know I am not a big fan of USC, but their quarterback, Sam Darnold, looks like he is something special. A few areas of note:

• His grandfather, Dick Hammer, was the Marlboro Man

• He went to a public high school—San Clemente H.S. After a basketball game a group of parents from a private school approached him to transfer to their school. His comment, “I’m staying with my buddies.”

• He chose not to enroll early at USC because he wanted to finish his high school basketball season with his teammates. When a USC coach told him that would put him behind another 5 star freshman who did enroll early he said, “The best player gets to play, right?”

Today’s Final Thought: The good deed you do today may benefit you or someone you love at the least expected time.

Kevin Drake

“After all is said and done, there is usually more said than done.”
