Hopkinsville Community College Foundation, Inc. $1,000.00 Atwood and Miles Textbook Scholarship Application Academic Year 2020 - 2021Who is eligible?Any Hopkinsville Community College student, whose HOME CAMPUS is HCC and has enrolled in at least six (6) credit hours for Fall 2020 at HCC (taught at HCC) may apply for a scholarship. Awards are $500.00 each semester for the 2020-2021 academic year (Fall 2020, Spring 2021) for a total of $1,000.00 in support. Scholarships are contingent on maintaining a GPA of at least 2.0 per semester. Students who do not maintain the required GPA will lose the scholarship for the following semester. Textbook Scholarship Application (this form).Write an essay detailing your need for textbook scholarship assistance. The quality of your essay and explanation of your need and desire for support is weighed heavily by scholarship evaluators. Carefully consider the effort needed to write a compelling essay. All scholarship awards from the Sam Miles Textbook Scholarship and the HCC Foundation Atwood Textbook Scholarship are to be used at the HCC Barnes & Noble College Bookstore. Because others have given generously, we are able to offer scholarships to you. The evaluators have asked that applicants take great care in preparing a thoughtful and compelling essay regarding the need for assistance and how $500 a semester would assist in pursuit of your program of study. The committee reads every essay carefully, ranking each and considers it paramount in making award decisions. Prompts and ideas for helping your essay stand out include:Share information about your journey. How did you come to be a student at HCC?Share information about yourself. What do you enjoy studying? What do you hope to accomplish while at HCC?How would a $500 scholarship per semester help you pursue your goals?What is your educational goal? This means elaborate beyond the degree or certificate. What do you want to do after you complete your education at HCC?What kinds of challenges do you face coming to HCC? The committee asks that you COMPLETE YOUR ESSAY via Word/word processing. Please refrain from hand written essays if possible. Evaluators strongly suggest that applicants use additional sheets to complete the essay. Students selected for scholarships MUST COMPLETE A THANK YOU NOTE as a condition of the scholarship award. FAILURE TO WRITE A THANK YOU NOTE WILL RESULT IN LOSS OF SCHOLARSHIP. Details on writing thank you notes, including notecards will be provided to scholarship recipients. Additionally, all scholarship recipients must attend a SCHOLARSHIP HUDDLE to learn more about scholarships and opportunities at HCC.
