Data Layout for SAT? and SAT Subject TestsTM Electronic Score Reports

EFFECTIVE FALL 2019 If you have questions on this data layout, please contact Customer Service at 888-SAT-HELP (728-4357) or k12reports@info..

Introduction

Score reports provide score information that each student selects to send from up to six administrations of the SAT? and six administrations of the SAT Subject TestsTM. The reports also include descriptive information if the student completed the SAT Questionnaire.

Some minor changes have been made to accommodate the inclusion of a third gender option and to allow for the reporting of multiple types of student ID. For your convenience, we have created a revised SAT Data Layout Crosswalk that provides information on these changes in an Excel format. You can access the crosswalk at collegereadiness.educators/k-12/score-resources.

A Summary of New Here is a brief summary of the changes to data fields and the layout that we Developments expect to make beginning in the 2019-20 year:

"Sex" field now supports additional value

In addition to "F" for "Female," and "M" for "Male," electronic score reports now allow for the inclusion of the value "A" for "Another."

Multiple student IDs reported

While both College Board Student ID (positions 222?233) and Secondary School Student ID (positions 234?263) continue to be reported, the electronic score report for SAT now includes District Student ID (positions 2602?2631) and State Student ID (positions 2632?2661).

You will see these new values reflected in all reports delivered on or after November 8, 2019.

Score Report Delivery and Data Access

Electronic score reports are accessed via the SAT Suite of Assessments online K-12 Reporting Portal at k12reports.. For more information on the K-12 reporting portal, see our help page collegereadiness.collegeboard. org/educators/k-12/reporting-portal-help.

Electronic score reports are delivered in two formats: comma delimited (.csv), and fixed width (.txt). This document outlines the specifications for the fixed width data layout. For information on the comma delimited data layout, review the Excel cross-walk for this format at collegereadiness..

Data Layout for SAT and SAT Subject Tests Electronic Score Reports

Please note, the College Board will not deliver paper student score reports or score labels to the student's school. Electronic score report data files, individual score reports, and score labels are accessible to view and download/print in the K-12 Reporting Portal, for free!

SAT School Day? Improved Access to the Test

SAT School Day removes barriers for students by offering the test during school hours. When a district or state pays for juniors or seniors to take the SAT in their hometown schools, it sends a powerful message of commitment to preparing all students for the next step. SAT School Day helps to foster a culture in which staff, parents, and students alike focus more on improving college and career readiness.

Opportunities continue to expand for students to participate in SAT School Day initiatives. These administrations are reported as separate administration dates in the fall, winter, and spring.

SAT School Day administrations are reported as separate administration dates. If your district offers SAT School Day, or if a student moves into your district from a district that offers SAT School Day, you may see scores on his or her report that indicate an additional administration date from the usual seven administrations.

For more information, contact the SAT Educator Help Line at 888-SAT-HELP (728-4357).

Test Scores (positions 672?726)

The SAT contains several scores, including a total score, section scores, test scores, cross-test scores, and subscores. The total score is on a scale of 400-1600; Evidence-Based Reading and Writing, and Math section scores are on a scale of 200-800, test and cross-test scores are on a scale of 10-40, and subscores are on a scale of 1-15. Additionally, the optional Essay will be reported as three subscores on a scale of 2-8. All scores are whole integers, except the Math test score, which is in 0.5 increments (i.e., 10.0, 10.5, 11.0, etc.).

From March 2005 to March 2016, the SAT included critical reading, mathematics, and writing section scores, reported as three digits on a scale of 200-800, as well as subscores for the essay and writing multiple choice. These scores are still included in the score report file if students took this version of the test.

To differentiate between the new SAT scores and old SAT scores there are two sets of score fields provided in the layout, one for each group of administration scores. If the scores being provided are from the new SAT, only the new SAT scores and percentile fields will be populated. If the scores being provided are from the old SAT, only the scores and percentile fields for the old SAT will be populated.

For the new SAT, we include college and career readiness benchmark indicators at the section-level scores. As shown in our research, benchmark attainment is related to many positive college outcomes and can be a useful tool in measuring the college readiness of high school students.

SAT Subject Test scores are reported as three digits on a scale of 200-800 in distinct score fields.

Major Codes (positions 2277-2298)

The codes for majors align with the Classification of Instructional Programs (CIP) codes provided by the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES). While we only use a subset of the published codes, we recommend allowing for any CIP codes as we update the SAT-supported values regularly.

Assessment Dates/ We report assessment dates by year, month, and day (YYYY-MM-DD). Every Grade Level When Assessed set of scores reported includes the student's assessment date and grade level

when assessed. Grade level when assessed is a student self-reported field.

Attending Institution Code Check that the correct six-digit code has been listed for your institution. (positions 1-6) If you find an error, contact Customer Service at 888-SAT-HELP (728-4357) or k12reports@info..

College Code and Name (positions 2349-2554)

These fields show up to four college codes and names that the student listed as score recipients on the registration form. The code is a four-digit number that precedes the name of the college and/or scholarship program. (Codes are listed online and in the SAT Code List booklet provided to your school.)

Revised Score Blank = not revised score, Z = revised score. A revised score can occur if a (positions 671 and 1594) student's assessment needs to be rescored and this results in a new score.

SAT Questionnaire Data (positions 1902-2348)

We report data from the SAT Questionnaire cumulatively for each student. The most recent date, in YYYY-MM-DD format, for which the SAT Questionnaire information was submitted is indicated in positions 1902-1911. Unanswered SAT Questionnaire questions are left blank.

Student Search Permissions This field indicates whether the student chose to participate in the Student (position 634) Search Service?.

Date of Report (positions 2582-2591)

This field indicates the date a student's score record was generated into the file. The date of report, like all other date fields, is in the YYYY-MM-DD format. It can be used to determine the most recent information when multiple records are created for the same student.
