Frye Scholarship ApplicationFrom the Capitol Press Club of FloridaWho?Who: Graduating high school seniors and college students planning to pursue a career in journalism can apply for scholarship awards up to $2,000. Students who attend or attended a high school in Florida or attend or expect to attend a college or university in Florida are eligible to apply, including graduate students. Applicants must either be students scheduled to graduate from high school during the 2020-21 academic year, full-time college students working toward an undergraduate degree or students enrolled in a graduate-level program with the intent of honing journalistic skills. Applicants don’t have to be majoring in journalism, but they must have an expressed interest in a career in journalism and be working toward that goal.What?An award of up to $2,000 granted on the basis of merit, dedication to a journalism career and demonstrated aptitude for print, broadcast or online journalism. An applicant’s race, nationality or financial need may be considered by the selection committee. However, this scholarship is mainly judged on merit, not need.Where? Applications, including answers to essay questions, one letter of recommendation from a teacher or professional journalist, an updated resume and three examples of your work, must be e-mailed to: BarbaraFryeScholarship@. When? The deadline for the 2020-2021 academic year is June 15, 2020 at 11:59 p.m. Eastern. All materials must be received by that time. Awards will be announced no later than December. Previous winners and applicants may reapply for additional support if they still qualify.Why? The scholarship fund was established by the Capitol Press Club of Florida, Inc., in 1982 as a memorial to Barbara L. Frye, the Tallahassee bureau chief for United Press International for 38 years. The scholarship is aimed at improving the depth, breadth and accuracy of reporting by inspiring talented young people to pursue careers in journalism.How?
