Education Week was a great opportunity to open up the doors to our classrooms and invite our families in! Thank-you to those who came along to see what learning looks like at Manor Lakes in the Primary and Supported classes.

As we continue to embed the Child Safe Standards, we have activated our Parent Calendar on Compass. The Parent Calendar will show community events (assemblies, information sessions, parades, open classrooms) as well as details about specific teacher training. As part of our Child Safe Standards, we know it is important to communicate with parents what training sessions our teachers participate in.

Did you know research shows that when our families are involved with their child’s learning, there is a positive effect size? (Marzano) We hope that the recent Curriculum Newsletters (sent home on blue paper), Open Classrooms, Parent Teacher Interviews and the Compass Calendar are all contributing to engaging with your child about their day at school. If you have any feedback, please let us know.

Rugby Representatives

Thursday the 16th of May a group of 5/6 boys represented the college at the half time break of the Melbourne Storm and the West Tigers game at AAMI park. This exciting opportunity gave our school a chance to demonstrate to the Rugby League community how dominant our college will be in the coming years in the sport of Rugby League. It really is a showcase of our academy for the coming years.

The students who have been selected are Phoenix B, Jayden L, Josh L, Steve L (grade 5), Huntah H (grade 5), Wireme P, Freddy R, Dylan S and Sione V. They have been selected based on their experience and knowledge of the game. Congratulations to these upcoming Rugby stars.

Mother’s Day Afternoon Tea

On Friday the 10th May the Prep Cohort had a Mother’s Day afternoon. Throughout the week we worked with our Year 6 buddies to create cards and presents for our loved one. The day was a very rainy one but we had a massive turnout of mums, grandmas and aunties. We spent the afternoon spoiling them with nail painting, massages and iced biscuits.

Milly from Prep E said that she likes paining mums’ nails and making bouquets.

Penelope from Prep G said that she loved sharing her writing with her mum and grandma.

Gursewak from Prep H said that she enjoyed making the mum booklet with her mum.

Thank you to everyone who came, it was a great success!

Naplan

On Tuesday 14th, Wednesday 15th and Thursday 16th of May the years 3 and 5 students sat the Naplan Test. Teachers were impressed with how well students conducted themselves throughout these times.

Attitudes to Schooling Survey

Years 4 to 6 and Secondary.

Once again, the Attitudes to School Survey will be conducted in all government schools. This survey is a mechanism for gaining an understanding of students’ perceptions and experience of school. At Manor Lakes College, we use the survey results to set improvement goals and to plan programs and activities to improve each child’s learning experience. Students will complete the survey online on before the end of the term. More information will be sent home parents of students involved later this week.
