Here are the Weekly Top-10 Rankings for all four Tiers of 12-man high school football in Alberta and the 6-man rankings as well for the 2018 season. These rankings will come out every Sunday (except for Labor Day kickoff) from now up until November 3. At that time those will be the last rankings and teams will take this rank into Provincials

The teams are slotted into Tiers based on their estimated school size, which may change once official counts are known at the end of September. Please note that games vs. US opponents, scrimmages, or tournaments are not taken into consideration for ranking or listed in the overall record of the schools.

Should you have any questions about the rankings or listed teams please contact Football Alberta at (780)427-8108 or check out our website at footballalberta.ab.ca.

GAME(S) OF THE WEEK:

Tier I

#3 Notre Dame Pride vs. #1 St. Francis Browns

6:00 p.m., Friday, October 4, McMahon Stadium (Calgary)

Traditionally the largest high school crowd of the year in Alberta, if not Canada, these two rivals never fail to entertain in their annual mid-season clash. Both teams sport undefeated records and a passionate following both within their schools and with their alumni. Perhaps a preview of the Calgary Division I final but well worth the price of admission.

Tier II

#1 Holy Trinity Academy Knights at #3 Hunting Hills Lightning

5:00 p.m., Friday, October 4, Great Chief Park (Red Deer)

It’s rare you get two teams this highly ranked in Tier II playing each other at this time of the year, but the exhibition schedules for both teams have given us this beauty under the Friday night lights in Red Deer. Both teams are also undefeated and looking to make their mark later on in the year, so games like these are only “exhibition” in name only.

Tier III

#6 Sturgeon Spirits vs. #5 St. Albert Skyhawks

7:30 p.m., Friday, October 4, Riel Park (St. Albert)

The St. Albert Skyhawks have had the Tier III Provincial berth out of the Edmonton Metro for the past four seasons with little challenge. Now comes the new kid on the block as the Sturgeon Spirits in their second year of existence look to win that spot themselves and Friday’s game will go a long way to seeing if they have a chance at the end of the season.

Tier IV

#1 Stettler Wildcats at #8 Ponoka Broncs

4:00 p.m., Friday, October 4, Ponoka High School (Ponoka)

A tough road for the Broncs as they are still relatively new as a program compared to Stettler and very new to this ranking business having only cracked the Top-10 for the first time last season. Still, good football is being played in town now and when you have the #1 team in Tier IV come to town it’s a test to see how far they have come.
