Stoke on Trent College

APPRENTICESHIP SCHEME (for Apprentices & Advanced Apprentices)

Stoke on Trent College is the largest provider of training for Apprenticeships in the Stoke on Trent area. As well as providing placements for trainees in organisations all over and around the City, we have a scheme for students who are placed within our own College departments.

Conditions of the Scheme

• Trainees placed within the College work on an employed status basis. This means that they are employed on a contract just like any other employee of the College.

• The contract will normally be for a fixed term extending to the expected date of completion of the training. This is usually 3 years for Apprentices and 18 months for Advanced Apprentices.

• There is a probationary period of up to 12 months and a probationary review will be carried out during this time (usually 10 months into the contract). The continuation of employment is subject to a satisfactory review of performance and progress with the apprenticeship (including the required qualifications).

• The continuation of the contract throughout the apprenticeship is subject to satisfactory performance and progress with the apprenticeship.

• Supervision of the progression of the placement is carried out by a Tutor Assessor. However, just like any other employee, the trainee reports to the Manager of the department concerned for the day to day issues. The Manager is also responsible for allocating and monitoring the trainee’s workload.

• All Apprentices receive a salary through the College payroll. There is a set pay scale which is attached.

• In the event of a trainee being offered a permanent post at the College it is an obligation that they continue with and complete their Apprenticeship qualifications.

Eligibility

To be eligible to join the Apprenticeship you need to satisfy the following requirements:

• Have a good standard of education, typically GCSE grades A* to C including Maths and English.
