COURSE DESCRIPTION: Core Mathematics is a sequence of 4, 2-credit courses designed to prepare students for college level mathematics and science courses. Each course in the sequence lasts for 7.5 weeks, allowing students to complete a maximum of two courses during fall, spring or summer semester. Students are placed into one or more courses, and proceed until they have completed the required sequence, which is determined by their major.

ATTENDANCE POLICY: Regular attendance is necessary and expected. Class will begin and end promptly. Students may leave only when class is dismissed.

Students in Core Mathematics I, II, III, or IV who earn a cumulative grade of 70% or higher in the tests (midterm and final) will progress to the next course. Students who earn C-, D, F, NF or SF will need to repeat the course. Freshman Forgiveness (Recalculation of first-year grade point average) will apply according to the provisions listed in the Undergraduate Catalog.

course grading:

Your final average will be determined by using weekly lab grades (35%), instructor assignments (15%), mid-term exam (15%), and a comprehensive final exam (35%). In order to pass the course with a grade of C or higher, you must obtain a cumulative grade of 70% or higher and 70% or higher in the tests (mid-term and final). Students who do not obtain the desired cumulative test grade have to retake the final exam. The highest of the two attempts will be counted as the final exam grade. A student may not receive any grade above a D+, if they do not earn 70% or higher in the tests (mid-term and final).

labs and vista:

Vista is a computer course management system on which you will submit weekly labs. There will be two online attempts available for each lab. Students will be required to submit electronic answers on Vista, normally by the start of class on Thursday. Your Vista user name and password are the same as your Flashline user name and password. If you do not already know how to log into Flashline/Vista or if you have problems with this account, visit the East Wing Computer Lab for assistance or contact the Kent State Help desk: helpdesk@kent.edu, 330-672-HELP (4357) or 24357 from a campus courtesy phone.
