IM Leadership Implementation Team

IM Leadership Implementation Team

Minutes of Tuesday, March 25, 2008

The Calvary IMLIT team assembled in a called meeting beginning at 7:00pm. The meeting was attended by 24 adults and 7 students.

Mark Rogers called the meeting to order by having Bro Richard open in prayer.

Mark announced that the team would be meeting each Sunday at 3:30pm on a weekly basis.

Kathy Adams reminded the team of the email contact list and for everyone to make sure they have responded in order to get the list completed and sent out.

J.D. Jones went over the specifics on Reach Camp 2008. We will follow a much more aggressive plan for collecting deposits and fees this year. All camp deposits are due in on May 1 and we have set an April 20 deadline for Calvary deposits, which include $50.00 per camper and a completed medical release form. Late entries will incur an additional $15.00 charge. Release forms will be available this coming Sunday.

J.D. shared information about the upcoming BSM luncheon that Calvary is hosting at Kilgore College on Tuesday morning, April 1.

J.D. also mentioned about the excess classroom items over in the old youth building and asked that we take a look at what we could still use in the building.

Joe Adams shared about the upcoming Third Day/Rangers baseball game on Saturday, April 12. Tickets are in and we need to get them sold in the next two weeks.

Mark Rogers announced that Travis Mileur would be chairing the new Selection Team and then turned the meeting over to him.

Travis started an open discussion related to several questions he had prepared.

1. What are our expectations in a new student minister?

Comments included:

Someone at least in late 20's Married

No young children Supportive of the IM/team concept

College/seminary degreed Prior student experience

Mission minded Strong heart for discipleship

Personal ongoing development Not looking for a stepping stone to pastorate

Full time position, specific to students

Questions were raised about not allowing education/degree from preventing consideration.

2. What are our expectations regarding a possible deadline/timetable?

Comments included:

Before start of 2008 school year By the start of Reach Camp

Not as important as getting right person Driven by prayer

Comments were made regarding expectations already in place about the position and scope:

This will be a full-time, specific to student position

The student ministry is defined as 7th through 12th grade.

The issue was raised about the college and career group. What we are currently doing is not working and there is a real need for separation from the student ministry. A comment was made about the college ministry needing specific ministry leadership and the fact that the SS rolls need to be updated and addressed. The student minister could provide an umbrella of leadership for this ministry.

Question was raised about involvement with the Senior Adult ministry. This ministry is now led by a designated committee.

3. Are we expecting another Danny Sammons or Jeff Ponder?

The group voiced an emphatic no, while noting that we are looking for someone with strong qualities. The person will be a part of the entire church ministry and should have interaction with the whole. They should be a great communicator.

A comment was made that the person should be a leader who has students of their own, thereby having that identity with the students and being a role model family. This would place the person in the late 30's/early 40's age group. He should have a commanding presence and merit immediate respect from the students.

Information was then shared about the Selection team:

Consisting of no more than six or seven male and female adults willing to

• Be passionate and committed about taking on this responsibility, with an attitude of not caring how long it takes in order to get the job done and done right.

• Be able to commit at least two hours per week

• Be able to openly communicate and share feelings and opinions

• Be committed to 100% unity as a team

A comment was made about the team needing to include some student leaders.

Travis mentioned that the team will follow a general rule of:

• Profiling the candidates one at a time

• Review resume of the candidate

• Grade the candidate

• Visit with potential candidate

• Upon recommendation, bring the candidate to Calvary for a service

• Continually provide updates to the IMLIT team

The following persons volunteered and were placed on the Selection team:

Travis Mileur - Chair

Vickie Rogers

Linda Bailey

Patrick Thompson

Joe Adams

Several names were provided for Travis to follow up with, including Tim Grant, Tracy Gillette, Terri Smith, Terry Carlisle, and Trey McKee.

The Selection team with begin meeting this Sunday. The team will also discuss what we want to do in regard to adding some students to the team for observation and learning purposes.

Tom Tennimon closed the meeting in prayer

Scribe Extraordinaire,
