The WS/FCS Student Services Division will host Financial Aid Meetings on January 8 & January 22nd at the Education Building, located at 4801 Bethania Station Road, starting at 6 pm.
We suggest that Mount Tabor senior parents attend one or both of these meetings.
You will find the following information at the Winston-Salem Foundation web site at . Click on Students and How to Apply. The application process opens on January 1, 2015. April 1, 2015 is the deadline for most merit-based scholarships.
COMMON APPLICATION PROCESS
You can apply for many student aid opportunities through our Common Application process. Our online application system will automatically identify those scholarship opportunities for which you appear to be eligible based on information you enter in the "Basic Information and Qualifying Criteria" section of the application.
After you initially register with us, the Common Application process requires the following:
• completion of the "Basic Information and Qualifying Criteria" section
• completion of all other sections of the application
• submission of the application by clicking these two buttons from the application menu page:
o "Submit Completed Application"
o "Yes, please submit my application"

Note: There are many other scholarships that are selected outside of the Foundation's online common application process.
Be sure to review the Other Scholarships list for information on Foundation scholarships with separate application procedures. You must contact each scholarship committee or guidance office individually to inquire as to their specific application process and deadlines.
Note that scholarships that are managed by the Winston-Salem Foundation exclusively for Mount Tabor students are highlighted below.
Important scholarship practices for students and parents:
1. Search scholarship and financial aid opportunities available from the colleges and universities where you plan to apply-know deadlines and application procedures.
2. Research scholarship opportunities at a national database like or to find broad and some unique scholarship opportunities.
3. Join the Mount Tabor PTSA-9 seniors who are PTSA members will win academic, arts and athletic scholarships-applications will be available after January 1, 2015.

FORGIVABLE EDUCATION LOANS FOR SERVICE (FELS) provides funding for North Carolina students pursuing programs leading to careers in areas with critical need, such as nursing, teaching, allied health fields and medicine. The FELS application and program information for the 2015-2016 academic year is available at FELS. The priority deadline for submitting the FELS application is April 1, 2015.
ERICA WOLFE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Criteria: Mount Tabor senior who has participated in band/orchestra or high school sports, school clubs, and community organizations; minimum 3.5 unweighted GPA
Award: one scholarship, varies each year (usually $750 to $1,000)

WES BURTON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Criteria: Mount Tabor senior who has demonstrated examples of community and school service, plans to major in mathematics, computer science, business administration, or engineering in college, and demonstrates financial need
Award: $500

JOSH GRAY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Criteria: Mount Tabor seniors who are members of the girls or boys soccer teams and demonstrate strong character and leadership skills, extraordinary team spirit, concern for others, a positive and encouraging attitude toward teammates, and a genuine lover for soccer; academic promise and financial need also considered
Award: $1,000

EDWARD KENT WELCH MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Criteria: Mount Tabor seniors who are accepted to and plan to attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and demonstrate academic promise, evidence of strong moral character, genuine concern for others, and school and/or community leadership
Award: $1,500
Deadline: all seniors who plan to attend UNC-Chapel Hill are considered in May

AUBREY LEE BROOKS SCHOLARSHIP
Criteria: North Carolina resident and graduating senior permanently residing in one of the following counties: Alamance, Bertie, Caswell, Durham, Forsyth, Granville, Guilford, Orange, Person, Rockingham, Stokes, Surry, Swain or Warren and planning to attend North Carolina State University, UNC-Chapel Hill or UNC-Greensboro; successful applicants have excellent high school grades and SAT/ACT scores, have participated in extracurricular activities, volunteered in their community and/or been regularly employed and have demonstrated leadership; applicants must demonstrate financial need based on completion of the FAFSA which must be filed by January 31, 2015
Awards: Scholarships up to approximately one-half of the cost of an undergraduate education

JAGANNATHAN SCHOLARSHIP
Criteria: North Carolina seniors who plan to attend one of the 16 constituent institutions of the UNC system on the basis of academic achievement, financial need, extracurricular activities and evidence of leadership (FAFSA must be completed online by February 1, 2014)
Award: One $2,000 scholarship

Criteria: Rising freshmen aspiring to attend NCCU; must receive admission to NCCU with a minimum gpa of 2.7

MEREDITH COLLEGE TEACHING FELLOWS PROGRAM
Criteria: Young women who are interested in pursuing a teaching career
Award: A four-year seminar series in education, cultural enrichment opportunities, a two-year mentor placement in a public school, and a scholarship (most recipients qualify for additional Meredith scholarships)

WESTERN CAROLINA UNIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIPS
Although entering students will be automatically considered for Honors College scholarships based on academic credentials provided during the admission process, students must apply for all other scholarships

GRISSOM SCHOLARS PROGRAM @ CENTRE COLLEGE
Criteria: High-achieving, high-need first generation college students; strong potential for leadership, high moral character, and significant involvement in extracurricular activities, the arts, service or work
Awards: Several full tuition scholarships, along with $5,000 stipend to be used for special education experiences such as overseas study, internships away or summer research projects

THE NATIONAL MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS SOCIETY’S SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
Criteria: Provides scholarships to anyone with multiple sclerosis, or anyone who is the child of some with multiple sclerosis, who will be attending an accredited postsecondary school for the first time.
Awards: Range from $1,000 to $3,000, although a limited number may exceed this amount
