FORGIVABLE EDUCATION LOANS FOR SERVICE (FELS) provides funding for North Carolina students pursuing programs leading to careers in areas with critical need, such as nursing, teaching, allied health fields and medicine. The FELS application and program information for the 2014-15 academic year will be available in November 2013 at FELS. The priority deadline for submitting the FELS application is April 1, 2014.

Meet college admission and scholarship application deadlines: Carefully read important information at college and university admissions, scholarship and financial aid web sites and follow through. Contact colleges and universities for clarification and talk with your school counselor if you have questions.

Now is the time to join the Mount Tabor PTSA if you want to be eligible for the PTSA Academic, Arts and Athletic Scholarships. Students must be members of the PTSA to apply, and membership must be obtained by January 1, 2014. Nine scholarships will be awarded by the PTSA. Applications will be available in early spring with the scholarships awarded at the Senior Awards Program in May.

The Winston-Salem Foundation common scholarship application becomes available on January 1, 2014 with a deadline of April 1, 2014. Students and families may begin researching scholarship opportunities and the application process at . ELKS NATIONAL FOUNDATION “MOST VALUABLE STUDENT” SCHOLARSHIPS

Criteria: High school seniors based on SCHOLARSHIP (50%), LEADERSHIP (40%), FINANCIAL NEED and QUALITY OF APPLICATION (10%); successful applicants are usually at or near the top 5% of the class and have SAT scores exceeding 1200 (CR & M) 1200 or similar ACT

Awards: Local, State, and National scholarships (500 four-year awards), ranging from $1,000 to $15,000 per year-six local scholarships (3 male and 3 female) will be awarded

Deadline: December 4, 2013 (Mr. Huck will deliver the applications on that day so plan to submit your application to Guidance by Wednesday, December 5th)

This organization expects and appreciates applications that are neatly completed and placed in a folder with all parts in order. Artifacts can be any form of documentation that supports your accomplishments.

NORTH CAROLINA STATE ELKS ASSOCIATION “NURSING” SCHOLARSHIPS

Criteria: High school seniors planning to major in Nursing based on SCHOLARSHIP (20%), active participation in STUDENT HEALTH CARE ACTIVIITIES (30%), and FINANCIAL NEED (50%); must plan to attend a North Carolina college or university, must be in top 25% of class

Awards: Three local scholarships of $1, 000 each for one year

Deadline: December 4, 2013 (Mr. Huck will deliver the applications on that day so plan to submit your application to Guidance by Wednesday, December 5th)

NOTE on ELKS Foundation Scholarships: Following the directions precisely and submitting a very neat application will benefit students who are seeking the endorsement of the local Elks Lodge. You should plan to deliver your completed application to Mr. Huck the week before the deadline for review.

WINSTON-SALEM/FORSYTH COUNTY EMANCIPATION ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

Criteria: High school seniors who have demonstrated academic excellence (3.0 minimum GPA), character, and service; some applicants will be selected for a personal interview

Awards: Several $1,000 scholarships and other monetary awards

Deadline: November 22, 2013 (Mr. Huck will mail all completed applications that are turned in by November 18th)

EMORY SCHOLARS PROGRAM @ EMORY UNIVERSITY

Criteria: Students who have outstanding records of academic achievement, who possess extra-ordinary personal qualities, and who have made significant contributions to their class, their school, and their community

Awards: Range from two-thirds tuition to full tuition, room, board, fees and extensive programs of educational enrichment (350 semifinalists admitted to Emory in January, approximately 70 will be interviewed in March –approximately 25 recipients will be selected)

THE NATIONAL MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS SOCIETY’S SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

Criteria: Provides scholarships to anyone with multiple sclerosis, or anyone who is the child of some with multiple sclerosis, who will be attending an accredited postsecondary school for the first time.

Awards: Range from $1,000 to $3,000, although a limited number may exceed this amount
