Catalog Description:

This course is an introductory course in statistics for students majoring in any of the academic disciplines. The course of study includes frequency distributions, measures of central tendency and variations, probability, the binomial, normal, chi-square, T and F distributions, sampling, tests of hypotheses, central limit theorem, correlation and regression analysis, analysis of variance and non-parametric tests. (CAN STAT 2)

Students will learn to validate conclusions, read accurately and critically, think logically, express thoughts precisely and solve problems in statistics.

Introduction to Statistics

I. Catalog Description

MATH 7, Introduction to Statistics 3 Units

This course is an introductory course in statistics for students majoring in any of the academic disciplines. The course of study includes frequency distributions, measures of central tendency and variations, probability, the binomial, normal, chi-square, T and F distributions, sampling, tests of hypotheses, central limit theorem, correlation and regression analysis, analysis of variance and non-parametric tests. (CAN STAT 2)

II. Expected Outcomes for Students

Upon successful completion of this course students should be able to perform the following activities with 70% accuracy.

A. Graph and analyze frequency distributions.

B. Calculate the mean, median, mode, variance, and standard deviation.

C. Calculate probabilities and critical values using distributions.

D. Construct samples and test hypotheses.

E. Find correlation coefficients and predict using regression analysis.

F. Analyze variance and perform non-parametric tests.
