Classification: Non-exemptRange: 80 ($14.42/hr.)City of Brush!WATER SYSTEM OPERATOR – No LicenseGeneral Statement of Duties: Under the supervision of the Water Foreman, performs a variety of duties related to the construction, maintenance and repair of the water and sewer system in order to provide efficient water and sewer service to the City.Essential Functions:-Maintain water wells.-Maintain water system.-Maintain sewer collection system.-Install water service.-Install water mains.Examples of Duties: The following duty statements are not intended and should not be interpreted to be an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, skills, efforts or working conditions associated with this position. Other duties and responsibilities are performed as assigned. -Performs work in construction, maintenance and repair of water, sewer, storm sewer lines, hydrants, services, wells, well and booster pumps, control systems, dosing equipment, and related appurtenances in the City's water and sewer stems.-Cuts asphalt, digs trenches, back fills and tamps.-Cuts, fits, lays, and taps pipes and mains, installs valves, tees and crosses; connects and disconnects water services.-Locates valves and underground installations.-Locates system lines for other utilities.-Maintains well houses and water tanks.-Flushes water system.-Maintains lift stations.-Sets up equipment and cleans sewer lines.-Repairs and replaces broken valves and manhole covers.-Reads water meters. -Collects water samples.-Provides maintenance of premises.-Uses and maintains backhoe and front-end loader.-Assists in keeping all reports, maintenance and equipment history.-Assists in monthly, quarterly and annual reports as required.-Shares responsibility for maintenance of vehicles.-Observes all safety rules and regulations. -Assists other departments as assigned. -Performs other duties as required, including weekend duty on a rotating basis.Job Requirements and Difficulty of Work:Thorough knowledge of the operation of, and the mechanical aptitude that allows working with, wastewater collection, water pumping plants, water transmission and distribution systems, valves, lift stations, wells, pump repair and maintenance, motors, electrical panels, instrumentation and of the principles, practices, and processes of water treatment. Ability to work unsupervised. Ability to deal with public in a cordial and professional manner. Ability to comprehend and follow complex written and/or oral instructions. Knowledge of backflow prevention and apparatus. Knowledge of chemistry and mathematics. Knowledge of confined space requirements and hazards.Must possess or be able to obtain a valid Colorado Class "D" Water Treatment Plant OperatorLicense. Possess certification as backflow prevention inspector or ability to obtain. Ability to climb ladders, ascend or descend stairs, reach overhead, enter confined spaces such as wet wells and manholes.Ability to walk, stand or lift for extended periods of time and be able to perform tasks during inclement weather conditions. Certified in the operation of a backhoe and front-end loader.Must have or be willing to obtain Hepatitis B vaccination.The employee shall work well under pressure, meet multiple and sometimes competing deadlines.The employee shall at all times demonstrate cooperative behavior with colleagues and supervisors.Physical Requirements and Work Environment:This position’s physical demand requirements place the position in the Heavy category according to the U.S. Department of Labor’s Dictionary of Occupational Titles, Volume II, Fourth Edition, Revised 1991. Ability to pull 75 pounds to 10 feet occasionally.Ability to pull 70 pounds to 24 inches occasionally.Ability to lift 100 pounds from ground to waist level occasionally.Ability to lift 64 pounds from a height of 4 inches to waist level occasionally.Ability to lift 40 pounds overhead in kneeling position occasionally. Ability to overhead lift 30 pounds from ground level to overhead occasionally.Exposed to: forceful exertions, postural stresses and upper extremity / whole body vibrations. Worksite conditions include: noise, temperature changes, extreme temperatures, wet/humid conditions, confined areas, fumes/dust/dirt and access above ground. Requires sustained attention, feeling sensation and balance. Education: High school education.Experience: Three (3) years of experience as a Water Service Worker or equivalent preferred.Desired Special Qualifications: Possess a Class “D” or higher Water Treatment Plant Operator License or be able and willing to obtain. Possess or be able to obtain a Class "1" Distribution System License and a Class "1" CollectionSystem License. ................
