HIGHPOWER RIFLE

The next quarterly J.C. Garand Training Match, will be on Sunday, June 19th, 2016.  It will be held at the CTSA Range, within the Dietz Shooting Complex, TX46, west of New Braunfels, TX. We'll be shooting the standard 35 round J.C. Garand Match course of fire. The organization has two loaner M1 Garands available for competitors to use, just let me know ahead of time. Match fee is $20 for adults and $10 for juniors.  There will be ammo available for purchase, 35 rounds of surplus M2 Ball 30-06, for $10 if you don't have your own.  If you don't have a Garand, or '03 series rifle, you can still shoot your AR or other rifle in the Modern Military category.  We'll run as many relays as needed.  This is still the same old 'walk and paste' range. Gate should be open by 0730, with sign-up to follow.  Fun begins at 0815 for set up and first rounds down range at 0900.

The High Power training schedule has been updated for 2016 on the organization's calendar. Training matches are held on the third Sunday of the month, except for the Pearl Harbor Remembrance Match, which is the 1st Sunday of December. There is another exception in July. July's match will be held on the last Saturday, July 30th. This is your chance to come out on a Saturday to shoot with us.

DEFENSIVE

Fredd Bergman

May 21st Defense Division and STMTC volunteer instructors and safety officers conducted our 2nd-quarter Women on Target event. 12 shooters participated and fun was had by all. It was a good event.

STMTC Defense and Pistol divisions have announced an introductory safety and marksmanship clinic for the GLBT community in the South Texas area. This event will be conducted using the same formulas we do for Women on Target clinics. We should take the opportunity to introduce what might be former anti-gun citizens and introduce them to reliable safety and marksmanship techniques. Defense Division Director Fredd Bergman is putting out a call to all instructors and safety offices willing to help at the July 16 program. Get in touch with Fredd ASAP at 210-619-9340, or email at tactics@ .

The Defense/Tactical Division will conduct a drill on June 26. Remember, all carbine drills are 2-gun events. If you would like to incorporate your pistol and practice transitions you will have that opportunity, and training will be provided if needed. To participate or to inquire, contact Defense Division Director Fredd Bergman at Tactics@ or call 210-619-9340. Pre-registration is required.

Beginning in July, all divisional training drills will take place on third Saturdays, until further notice. Here are the standards for participation:

Fee is $20 for members and $35 for non-members. Drill requires 350 rounds of ammunition. We will allow .22LR conversion kits, but be aware that utilizing the .22LR substantially encumbers the desired effects of the training. Following is a list of mandatory equipment: rifle, at LEAST two magazines (more is better), magazine pouch, hearing protection, eye protection, rugged footgear, headgear, shooting mat, and dummy cartridges will enhance your experience. Elbow and knee pads are suggested, but not required. Participants must already be proficient with their firearms. This is a basic course in tactical fundamentals, involves shooting while moving, and is conducted in an "always hot" environment. Your firearm will remain loaded at all times, as it is in the field. Appropriate uniform is necessary. Law Enforcement personnel wear your duty gear. Military participants wear appropriate kit. Civilians can wear whatever, as long as you meet basic equipment requirements.

MEMBERSHIP CARD UPDATE

STMTC has purchased a membership card-specific printer for the purpose of resolving our various challenges getting the new cards to the membership. Soon we will be mailing out PVC cards (like credit card material) so we can all have our cards and keep them handy. Hang in there--we're getting it done.
