This is the greatest and first commandment. The second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. The whole Law and the Prophets depend on these two commandments.(Matt. 22/37-40)With the onset of Labor Day and the month of September we are aware of the beginning of “A New School Year” – whether for students, teachers, staff, families or many others. Quite a few of us no longer haunt school facilities, but we are warned to “Watch Out!” and “Drive more carefully!” Many of us are happy to be so minimally affected by this great national event. No doubt, some of us are also probably feeling a bit nostalgic for the old “guided days.”All of us can look back to those times and review both pleasant and/or unpleasant experiences and realize what they have contributed to our current mature, adult, responsible behavior.I purposely selected the above Matthew quote to remind us of the basic direction it offers to sincere, directed, daily Christian existence. We can, I believe, all conjure up some meaningful childhood experiences that are now significant to us today. One cannot get much more basic to living our Christian lives and the ideals of the Knights of Columbus than owning and reflecting and deepening both our understanding and practice of the 2-fold directions given above. And Jesus was only repeating centuries old adages of his Jewish Tradition. So, as “School Openings” appear before us now, I suggest you do direct some of your own reflective effort to reviewing the above instruction and its impact on yourself over the years.Fr. Please let Membership director Steve Cribben know of any new candidates at 606-4700.LAMBEAU FIELDOur council supported three events in August. Saint Teresa was canonized by Pope Francis on September 4, 2016. She experienced a calling in September of 1946 to be God’s love in action – to serve the sick and dying, the hungry and homeless. Although our community is different from the one Saint Teresa served in India, we as Knights are called to action to serve those most vulnerable in our community. Our support of Paul’s Pantry, St. John’s Homeless Shelter, House of Hope and others answers that call to allow God’s mercy on those who need it most. Our email system is an excellent way to stay up to date with the activities of our council. Our Financial Secretary Wayne Van Asten and myself manage the email. If you have a prayer request, please email Wayne at waynevanasten@. For any other request, you may email me at ptnordeen@.
