Classroom News:

Mrs. Newcomb’s (Spanish):

Sra. Newcomb's 1A and 1B classes have been breaking the ice and getting to know each other.  Students took the SLO to make sure they are placed correctly and to assess current skill levels in class on Thursday.  The scores are not used in grades.  Students should be bringing a 3-ring binder with some loose-leaf paper, a pencil and their school provided planner to class every day.  (The 3- ring binder should be a 1" binder for Spanish only or a 2" if another class will be sharing space.)  Parents- there will be an info sheet sent home by Friday, August 25th so keep an eye out for it.  Also, hope to see you all at Curriculum Night on the 28th!  :-)

Ms. Zambito’s (Art):

I am Molly Zambito, Worthingway’s newest art teacher!

I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself. Like any good art teacher, I love to draw (mostly doodle), paint, and collage. I like to get messy, so if you have any tips for stain removal techniques I’m all ears. What you might be surprised to know is that I do not consider myself a fine artist. I love to take classes, but I am learning about fine art skills just like your kids! What I would say is that I am a creative thinker, and I like to encourage others to experiment and think creatively. I find inspiration by spending time with friends and family, reading, and traveling.

This semester in art, your child will be doing all sorts of amazing things. We will not only be learning about the elements and principles of design, but also be working on thinking like an artist, and how art can be applied in the real world. Our class projects will also be integrated in other subject areas. It is hard to find an art project that cannot connect to Language Art, Math, Social Studies, Science, etc. It is my goal that all children will leave art with a strong capability to creatively solve problems, which is a highly sought after skill in today’s world.

The Class Expectations are below. Please review and talk about them with your child:

1. Be Kind- We will be kind to all children and staff inside and outside of the art room. We will also be kind to all property and materials.

2. Be Safe- We will make safe choices, and use materials responsibly.

3. Think like an artist!

If children are having trouble following the expectations, I will be sure to let you know so we can come up with a solution together.

I believe that for children to be successful at school we need to work as a team. Please feel free to contact me at any time with concerns or questions about your child’s art education. My hope is that your child will have the absolute best art class experience possible and gain new skills. If there is anything special I can do to make this happen, please let me know.

Thank you so much for reading! I look forward to meeting you at some point this year. I will be sending more information out later on in the semester regarding potential art shows, and other art opportunities to consider. In addition, you can find The Worthingway Middle School Art Blog at .
