Julie Maurer’s Participant Profile

Julie Maurer is the Coordinator of Workforce Development Programs for Columbus State Community College's Continuing Professional Education department in the Community Education & Workforce Development division. She is attending the FEMA Higher Education Conference as a representative of Columbus State’s Institute for Public Safety & Health. The Institute is interested in partnering with FEMA to offer local training opportunities in central Ohio. Ms. Maurer is looking forward to learning about related programs at other higher education institutions throughout the country. In addition to establishing the Institute for Public Safety & Health, she has developed and implemented the Lifelong Learning Institute, the Building Operator Certification program, the Certified Employee Benefits Specialist program, and a variety of other business, engineering, and safety related programs. Prior to joining the CPE department, Ms. Maurer was Administrator of the Transitional Workforce department where she created a wide variety of programs and services. Most of these projects involve partnerships with governmental agencies, community and faith based organizations, businesses, and private foundations. Previously, Ms. Maurer chaired Columbus State's Environmental department where she developed and implemented the Environmental Technology degree program. She has also worked for the Ohio State Fire Marshal - Bureau of Underground Storage Tank Regulations (BUSTR), and the California Regional Water Quality Control Board - Colorado River Basin Region. Ms. Maurer graduated from the University of California - Irvine, with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. She earned her Master’s degree in Education from The Ohio State University.
