Student achievements recognized

▪ Students in Lawton were named Youth Advocates of the Year by the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids. The students were honored in Washington for their role in the Lawton-Ft. Sill Students Working Against Tobacco (SWAT) Team. The team, which promotes interactive community projects, education and policy advocacy targeting the tobacco industry, is supported by Comanche County Memorial Hospital.

▪ Carly Schnaithman of Garber was selected as one of 100 high school seniors nationwide to receive a scholarship from Toyota Motor Sales for a commitment to education and community service. The scholarship is worth at least $10,000, and Schnaithman is the only winner from Oklahoma. She played a major role in setting up a haunted house to raise money for cancer patients.

▪ Several students from Oklahoma City’s Harding Fine Arts Academy received recognition at Southern Nazarene University’s Guitar Solo and Ensemble competition in May. Two did so well they will have an opportunity to record their music at the university. Those students are Trueon Guevara and Dylan Bates.
