They are different from the special flight simulators used for professional pilot and military flight training, consisting of a real physical free rest in the cockpit of an actual aircraft, often with a full-speed platform. Combat flight simulation titles are more than civilian flight simulators due to the variety of theme available and market demand. Many free flight simulators, such as open source Linux Air Combat, Digital Combat Simulator and Falcon 4.0, can be downloaded for free out of the Internet. History Before the rise of modern video games, electromechanical games were produced, which were used as a projection of the rear image, similar to that of the ancient finder, to produce on-screen animations. [1] This technology led to the growth of arcade games, as well as the first simulation of video games in the late 1960s. One such electro-mechanical game was Jet Rocket, a flight simulator released by Sega in the 1970s that featured cockpit controls that could move a player aircraft around the terrain displayed on a screen and shoot missiles at targets that would explode if hit. In 1975, Taito released an arcade video game simulator, The Interceptor,[3] an early first-person combat flight simulator that involved pilots of a jet fighter using an eight-way joystick to aim and shoot enemy aircraft. [4] In the 1980s. [5] Other games such as the earliest version of Microsoft Flight Simulator (1982) had crude graphics, simple flight models, and the combat option of dog fighting in World War I Sop Camelwith. Soon after Microsoft Flight Simulator was released on an 8-bit computer, Microsoft released Jet in 1985. This simulator used easy-to-filled wire frame graphics and small general battle space to allow players to fight miGs f-18 or F-16. There were also headlines released by Atari 2600 that simulated flight combat, two examples of mattel's Air Raiders (1982) Milton Bradley Spitfire Attack (1983). During the 1990s and early 2000s, there was a shift to traditional video game platforms such as arcades, consoles like the original PlayStation, their ability to play at home. PC games remained popular at the time, as many publishers continued to produce games primarily for the PC platform. Because of the limitations and relative ease of controllers available on game consoles at the time, flight simulators remained largely absent from consoles for years. [6] Several rival publishers rose during this period as NovaLogic titles such as the Comanche Series, which simulated helicopter combat, and Electronic Arts with Jane's World War II Fighters, which improved features such as detailed visible damage. Newer software genre include Falcon 4.0: Allied Force (2005), Digital Combat Simulator (2008) and Rise of Flight (2009). On consoles, Namco launched Air Combat (1995) for the original PlayStation, which later became the Ace Combat series. Types of Combat flight simulators are classified according to their historical period, aircraft type and level of detail. This classification method means that many simulators fall into more than one category, leading to arguments about what can be considered actual simulations instead of games. In general, simulations are expected to replicate real-world technology, while games are not; therefore, not suitable for every game in which they fly is not suited to the category of flight simulation. Simulator realism can be categorized as follows: Arcade game (at least realistic) study simulation (most realistic) Tables below define rough guidelines that could be classified as combat flight simulation games. This type of classification applies to many historical combat simulators, and usually involves aircraft from all countries involved in the conflict. Early simulators suffered from flight models and instrument panels, which differed little between planes. As the technology got better, so did the diversity of the aircraft, which forced the virtual pilot to learn carefully modeled the strengths and weaknesses of different types of aircraft (e.g. the various fighting and flying styles of spitfire versus Messerschmitt 109 IL-2 Sturmovik or Mitsubishi Zero versus U.S. Navy F4F Wildcat in Combat Simulator 2). Modern jet study simulators have been developed as well as U.S. Navy Fighters (USNF) and Jane's USAF by Jane's/Electronic Arts, usually simplified and generic modeling radar, navigation and weapons. At the turn of the century, I saw technological advances that increased the capabilities of these simulators by simplifying and improving their weapons handling and flight models, as well as updated visuals. Titles featuring these revisions include Jane's Combat Simulations, a series of flight simulations originally developed by Electronic Arts and later continued by the company Third Wire, as well as a series of Strike Fighters: Project 1 and Wings across Europe. The study study sim is a genre simulation of games that focuses on modeling aircraft systems as accurately as possible. The development of computer technology made this possible by developing highly detailed models that improved the fidelity of avionics, weapons systems, physics, flight models, graphics, etc. and enabled fully interactive cockpits where virtually every control was mapped and functional. This was important because modern jet combat aircraft and helicopters have a variety of complex electronic and weapon systems that are specific to a particular aircraft. Early iterations of simulators in this genre include the release of EF2000 by Digital Image Design (DiD), which quickly garnered a special following, including a user group that produced a detailed online manual of weapons and tactics, as well as the popular Falcon 4.0, a detailed simulation of the USAF F-16 Fighting Falcon. Other development of these simulators includes collaboration and specialized efforts in Electronic Arts and Jane's 1990s, with titles such as Jane's Longbow, Jane's Longbow 2, Jane's F-15 and Jane's F/A-18. Helicopter simulations began in 1986 with the title Gunship by MicroProse. Nine years later, in 1995, Digital Integration released Apache Longbow, the most sophisticated helicopter simulation of the time. In 1996, it was crossed by Jane's AH-64D Longbow, created by the systems of origin and part of Jane Simulator series. The sequel, Jane's Longbow 2 (1997), was one of the first simulations to take advantage of hardware with accelerated graphics, including advanced lighting. 1998 saw the release of Enemy Engaged: Apache vs. Havoc by Empire Interactive, which allowed players to choose to fly to either the U.S. or Russia. The sophistication and complexity of these simulators continue to grow, and the 2008 Digital Combat Simulator (DCS) released DCS: Black Shark, the first in a series of simulations that featured a complete and detailed cockpit of all relevant switches accurately modeled and functional, and mapped over 500 key-commands. DCS also supported a variety of input devices alongside the traditional joystick, throttle and pedals, featuring built-in support of TrackIR and Virtual Reality 6 degrees of freedom, which, along with an interactive 3D cockpit, created a very realistic experience. Modern jet modern jet simulators are usually classified in their historical context or level of details (study versus study). There have been many modern jet sims that focus on existing fighters (several AV-8 Harrier II Sims, and others such as the Fleet microProse and F22 lightning 3 and F-22 Raptor by NovaLogic), while others focus on future fighters (eg the F-22 Total Air War by Digital Image Design 1998). While many simulators either classify the study as a sim or study sim, Lock On: Modern Air Combat is an example of a game that seeks to bridge the survey/study gap between the very detailed models of several U.S. and Russian aircraft. Multi-player Before multiplayer games became popular, many simulators could only play with one player. This was still standard until the late 1990s, when most titles contained some form of multi-player/network capabilities. In single player combat simulators, each unit other than players on its aircraft controls the program AI (artificial intelligence) and modern video games to create a highly sophisticated and intelligent AI for the independent behavior of opponents and allies. Multiplayer games, which usually also include AI, allow players to be against one or more human players. After the growth of the internet, many simulators were created that exist only or mainly in internet multiplayer versions (eg Air Warrior, massively multiplayer Fighter Ace, WarBirds, Aces High, World War II Online, Ace Online, War Thunder, Fighter Wing 2 and others). Gameplay missions, campaigns, mission builders Many players in both video games and simulators look for games of their replay value. Simulators increase replay value by offering a variety of individual missions consisting of short, randomly generated missions, as well as longer campaigns consisting of several smaller missions or targets. Most campaigns are dynamic fluid, which means that they change according to the results of each successive mission (e.g. if a player destroys the opportunity to target turns out to be a truck, carrying an enemy leader, then the campaign starts to take a different path). Some campaign models have been developed, which are fully dynamic and where successive missions take place in a permanent environment (if a building is destroyed in one mission, it will be destroyed in the next and will only be restored due to limited resources, realistic time and strategic priorities, etc.). A notable pioneer in this field was Andy Hollis, producer of Jane's Longbow series. Digital Image Design, their release of the F-22 Total Air War in 1998, enabled transparency on a larger strategic battlefield that has multiple screens and a God's eye to watch. Many simulators also include mission builders that allow the player to create their own missions. Control and other hardware Combat flight simulators are among the most computer and graphics demanding applications at any given time because they are realtime applications with multiple processes happening at once. This leads many simulation fans to constantly upgrade their hardware, including the most advanced graphics cards. These Sims have also generated a variety of hardware add-ons such as HOTAS (hands throttle and stick) controllers that allow full control of most features without touching the keyboard. Voice control and head-tracking view control systems are also available for home-flight sim enthusiasts. Links ^ D.S.
