other places where Candidates can serve.

may consider accompanying Candidates

on some of their service projects.

Serve alongside them and teach by example.

Activities listed inside this brochure are planned by the parish and other groups we work with in our neighborhood. However, candidates and their families are strongly encouraged to find other ways of doing service beyond those listed inside this brochure. Some additional ideas are on the back of the brochure.

Many parish groups are good resources to connect our youth with people in need during and beyond Confirmation Prep:

Society of St. Vincent de Paul; SVDP Youth Group; Commons Community Service Team and Green Team; Respect Life Committee; Ministers of Care (visit hospitals and the homebound); SPRED Ministry (Special Religious Development for people with developmental disabilities; Boy Scouts & Girl Scouts.

In previous years, students in our Confirmation program did service helping those in our parish and the broader community, including:

Serving breakfast to and playing games with low-income seniors at Lidia Pucinska Senior Apartments * Decorating, cleaning, selling tickets and serving food at a church party * Sorting donated items and helping children make fleece blankets for new immigrant families helped by Exodus * Preparing food for and volunteering at Our Lady of Lourdes Soup Kitchen and the Thanksgiving dinners at St. Benedict, Ravenswood Presbyterian Church, and Urban Vineyard Church * Making and packing PB&J sandwiches for the homeless at St. Teresa Loaves & Fishes * Soliciting and collecting donations of warm winter gear for the Night Ministry to homeless teens and young adults * Cooking and serving meals for the Night Ministry * Visiting with and helping blind adults make arts and crafts * Tutoring and playing with younger children in after-school care program * Selling treats at movie night to raise funds for the homeless * Sorting, packing and loading books donated to a new library in Botswana * Free babysitting for a family in need * Helping and cheering for disabled basketball team at Misericordia Home * Sorting and packing donated items for families in need and registering adults applying for financial assistance * Helping seniors carry and put away groceries at Martha Washington Senior Apartments * Cleaning up garbage in the neighborhood or at a public park * Distributing gifts and cleaning at church toy drive * Helping parents without access to technology get signed up for programs on a school website * Raking leaves and doing garden work for elderly neighbors * Assisting with face-painting at neighborhood festivals * Walking in a 5k to raise funds for diabetes research * Making repairs, cleaning and setting up furniture in church buildings * Selling tickets and food at a school fundraising event * Assisting basketball team of younger children at practices * Walking in and preparing posters for a Peace March * Making charity items for Queen of Angels Santa Shoppe * Assisting a teacher after school * Volunteering at or setting up for the Holiday Craft Fair, Market Day, Thanksgiving Food Drive, Harvest Jam, book fair and other Queen of Angels events

Sorting and packing food with the Society of Saint. Vincent de Paul for those in need in our area. Meet teens involved in the SVDP Youth Group.

Youth may help with sorting and packing and assist patrons in picking out their food.

You have many gifts and talents. Use them!

This means you get to see Jesus in the

faces of the people you are helping.
