17 March 2020…………………Dear Sir or MadamRe: COVID-19, Serum Eyedrop Service ContingencyI am writing to you as a user of Allogeneic Serum Eyedrops to inform you of NHSBT’s plans for continued service provision during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.NHSBT Tissue & Eye Services are working with colleagues within Blood Donation to ensure that the blood donations required to produce your serum eyedrops continue to be donated and processed. With regards to blood donations, JPAC, the joint professional advisory committee for the UK blood services, regularly reviews and updates donor selection guidelines in response to emerging infections. There are no confirmed cases of any form of coronavirus being transmitted via a transfusion or transplantation of substances of human origin such as blood, organs, tissues and stem cells. In line with current practise, the Tissue & Eye Services Customer Care team will contact you when your next delivery of serum eyedrops is due to be delivered. Tissue & Eye Services are working hard to maintain the supply of serum eyedrops to the many patients that we treat and due to this, I would ask that you only contact Tissue & Eye Services when you have one weeks supply of serum eyedrops remaining (if we haven’t contacted you already).I will write to you again should any circumstances change which may impact our ability to continue to provide your serum eyedrops.Thank you for your ongoing support during this difficult time.Yours sincerelyKyle BennettHead of Operations, Tissue & Eye Services ................
