Diamond Brand Marketing Internship

Diamond Brand Marketing InternshipWhat is Diamond Brand?Diamond Brand has been a leading manufacturer and retailer of outdoor gear since 1881 and has a corporate office in Fletcher, NC. Diamond Brand is primarily a contract manufacturer providing tents, protective covers, bags and packs for the U.S. and foreign militaries as well as commercial outdoor gear for organizations like the Boy Scouts and water sports gear for companies like Confluence. We also have relationships with factories overseas where we do international sourcing. In 2007, Diamond Brand purchased Stahlsac, a manufacturer of SCUBA diving luggage and travel solutions. Our retail store, Diamond Brand Outdoors, opened in Western North Carolina in 1964 and has been voted Best Outdoor Gear Shop in WNC for 7 years in a row. In 2005, we opened a discount store, Frugal Backpacker, next door to Diamond Brand. The retail stores sell outdoor gear and apparel for a variety of outdoor sports like running, camping, hiking, paddling, climbing, yoga, fitness and more. We also sell top brands like Patagonia, The North Face, Mountain Hardwear, Brooks, Kelty and Columbia to name a few. As a company, Diamond Brand employs about 100 – 200 people depending on the season and takes pride and invests in its employees. We are also committed to Community Outreach and Involvement and we support a variety of organizations and have partnerships with many local businesses. Marketing at Diamond BrandSince Diamond Brand has 2 divisions, manufacturing and retail, it makes it a fun but challenging business to market due to the many differences in the 2 divisions. Also, within those 2 visions, there is also variety. For example, for retail there are 2 different store to market: Diamond Brand Outdoors and Frugal Backpacker and within the manufacturing division there are 3 sub-divisions: military, outdoor and water sports. Diamond Brand’s marketing is mostly all done in-house and not outsourced with the exception of some graphic design and public relations. Therefore, all facets of marketing are covered within Diamond Brand’s own marketing department from media placement to event planning to sponsorships and donations to putting together ads and promotions and tracking ROI. About Diamond Brand’s Marketing InternshipDiamond Brand’s Marketing Internship allows current students who are interested in Marketing to explore that area of interest and find out its right for them, while also giving students substance for their resumes, experience, and it also pays (the hourly rate is usually $7 - $9 an hour depending on experience). We try our best to give our interns projects in areas within Marketing that are of interest to them. For example, we gave a student interested in Merchandising a product placement project and a chance to re-merchandise our store. We also gave a student interested in event planning the chance to plan one of our big events, and another student interested in graphic design a chance to design some of our posters and e-blasts. There are daily administrative marketing needs that our interns assist with including tasks like printing, copying, proofing ads and releases, updating social media and our website and maintaining our database, but we always try to give our interns at least several meaningful projects that will not only give them good experience but also add to their resume. What is the commitment? The internship is meant to be about 15 – 25 hours per week and the number of hours usually varies depending on workload and time of year. If an intern would prefer to work full time, we can work that out as well. We understand that our interns are current students and may hold other jobs and that school does come first, therefore, we are conscious of other demands our interns may have like exams and projects and try our best to work around that and provide time-off as needed. This is why we usually let our interns make their own schedule or work from home as needed. The length of the internship can be one semester, or for a year, and this can be negotiated during the interview.
