ABOUT THIS PROGRAM OF STUDY

The Banking and Finance program of studies will prepare you for a career in financial and investment planning, banking, insurance, and business financial management. Career opportunities are available in every sector of the economy and require specific skills in organization, time management, customer service and communication. This program of studies is comprised of content in deposits, lending funds, extending credit, and banking services which includes cask management, short-term investments, loans, credit cards, and bill payments. These services are delivered via a number of different institutions, from commercial banks and other traditional means (savings and loan associations, credit unions, and local banks) to newer ventures through insurance companies, brokerage houses, and the internet.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

The Banking and Finance occupation group is projected to grow by 9% in Tennessee between 2014 and 2022. Job opportunities are strongest in areas of Davidson and Shelby Counties and other counties in the mid Cumberland area, though there is strong potential for openings in Hamilton County as well. Occupations from this program of studies with the greatest number of average annual openings include financial managers, loan officers, financial analysts, wholesale and retail buyers, personal financial advisors, and purchasing managers.
