Naviance Student Directions Central Dauphin High School College Application Process -- PLEASE ALLOW 10 SCHOOL DAYS TO PROCESS ALL REQUESTS 1. First … apply to the college or university directly through their website. Each college has their own application (usually found under “admissions”). Some schools use the Common Application – to learn more about those schools go to: . You can also access college admissions websites through Naviance. 2. Once you have applied to a college, you are ready to log in and complete steps in Family Connection. ** You must also submit a release form and the College Application Checklist to the guidance office. 3. Log in to your Naviance account using your complete school email and student ID number.-Family Connection Website: . Click on the COLLEGES tab. Then on COLLEGES I’M APPLYING TO. 6. Click on the LOOK UP button and type in the name of your first school. The school will appear in the list.7. Indicate the type of admissions for which you are applying, if you have submitted your application and if you are requesting a transcript at this time. Scroll to the bottom of the screen to click ADD COLLEGES. 8. It’s very important that you also submit the College Application Checklist to the guidance office after you have requested your transcript in Naviance. This is the only way for the Counseling Office to process your transcripts!Common Application Notes:Step 1: Go to Step 2: Create a Common Application account.Step 3. Complete initial Common Application Tasks;Complete current or most recent school education section.Add at least 1 college to your My Colleges list.Read and Sign FERPA Release Authorization.Step 4: Complete the account matching process in Family Connection. Enter the account information (email). It is imperative that the same student email be entered for the Common Application account and Naviance when completing the matching process.Step 5: In Naviance, click on “Colleges I’m applying to.” Name and email entered must be identical to ones used in Common Application accountIf you are using the Common Application, please direct teachers to complete the Teacher Evaluation Form in Naviance as well as upload their letter of recommendation. Your counselor will also complete the Secondary School Report for the Common Application through Naviance. All forms and letters will be sent electronically to the schools that you have indicated in your list of colleges to which you’ve applied using Common App. Requesting Teacher Recommendations 1. FIRST, speak to your teachers and ASK them to write a letter of recommendation for you. Many teachers enjoy writing letters of recommendations however some teachers are asked to write quite a few each year. Please give them plenty of notice, at least ten days in advance!2. Pick a teacher or two who you have had recently and who know you well. You may also pick someone from outside the school such as an employer, coach, or advisor of a community organization. Some colleges require a letter and form from the School Counselor. 3. Complete the Resume in Naviance. a. Click on the ABOUT ME tab and the Resume is on the bottom of the screen under “interesting things about me.” b. Teachers will have access to the Resume to write a thorough letter of recommendation for you. There’s a wide variety of information that they may not already know about you so it’s important to answer each question thoughtfully. Be sure to click update at the bottom of the page to save your responses. You can change and update this form at any time. 4. Once your teacher has agreed to write a letter, you must also request it through Naviance. 5. Under the COLLEGES tab, click on COLLEGES I’M APPLYING TO then under teacher recommendations, click on ADD/CANCEL REQUESTS. 6. Find the teacher you have asked in the pull down menu. Type a note in the box on the right side – this note may include the specific colleges you are requesting a letter for and any other important information they need to know. This is also a notification that you have listed them as a recommender for your account. 7. If you have asked someone outside of school to write a letter for you, you or that person will send that letter directly to the college.8. If you are using the Common Application, please direct teachers to complete the Teacher Evaluation Form in Naviance as well as upload their letter of recommendation. Your guidance counselor will also complete the Secondary School Report for the Common Application through Naviance.
