WORD PROCESSING APPLICATIONS, SPREADSHEET APPLICATIONS, PRESENTATION APPLICATIONS, DATABASE APPLICATIONS, AND OFFICE COMMUNICATION APPLICATIONS EACH HAVE THEIR OWN IDIOSYNCRASIES AND SUBSEQUENT CHALLENGES. IN THIS CLASS, YOU LEARN INTERMEDIATE TO ADVANCED ASPECTS OF EACH TYPE OF APPLICATION AND WHAT THE TYPICAL USER DIFFICULTIES ARE IN THOSE APPLICATIONS. MOST IMPORTANTLY, YOU LEARN HOW TO IDENTIFY AND FIX PROGRAMMATIC PROBLEMS. YOU BEGIN BY LOOKING AT WORD PROCESSING APPLICATIONS, FOLLOWED BY SPREADSHEET APPLICATIONS. YOU THEN LEARN ABOUT PRESENTATION APPLICATIONS AND OFFICE COMMUNICATION APPLICATIONS. THE COURSE WRAPS UP WITH DATABASE APPLICATIONS AND A DISCOVERY OF CLOUD OFFICE® PRODUCTS. REVIEWING AND DISCUSSING THE SPECIFIC SUPPORT ASPECTS OF EACH OF THESE APPLICATIONS OFFERS YOU A SOLID UNDERSTANDING OF HOW A SUPPORT ROLE WORKS.

Course Overview

This course is an introduction to the support fundamentals of end-user office software; including word processor, spreadsheet, presentation, database, and personal information management (e-mail, calendar, contact management, and web browsing) applications.

Main Concepts

Week One covers Microsoft® Word. You will identify the functions of the program, perform various tasks, then diagnose and troubleshoot common problems encountered within Word.

IN WEEK TWO, YOU WILL EXPLORE THE MICROSOFT® SPREADSHEET APPLICATION, EXCEL®. TOPICS COVERED WILL BE THE SAME AS THE PREVIOUS WEEK. YOU WILL IDENTIFY THE FUNCTIONS OF THE PROGRAM, PERFORM VARIOUS TASKS, AS WELL AS DIAGNOSE AND TROUBLESHOOT SOME COMMON PROBLEMS ASSOCIATED WITH THE PROGRAM.

WEEK THREE WILL TAKE YOU THROUGH THE FUNCTIONS OF MICROSOFT® POWERPOINT®; FOCUSING ON THE VARIOUS FUNCTIONS, THE COMPLETION OF DIFFERENT TASKS WITHIN THE PRESENTATION PROGRAM, AND PROVIDING A THOROUGH KNOWLEDGE OF DIAGNOSING AND TROUBLESHOOTING COMMON PROBLEMS.

IN THE FOURTH WEEK YOU WILL LEARN ABOUT MICROSOFT’S E-MAIL APPLICATION, OUTLOOK®. YOU WILL IDENTIFY FUNCTIONS, PERFORM TASKS, AND TROUBLESHOOT COMMON CONCERNS PEOPLE HAVE ABOUT THE PROGRAM. IN ADDITION TO THE E-MAIL PORTION OF THE PROGRAM, YOU WILL ALSO LEARN ABOUT THE CALENDAR FUNCTION WITHIN OUTLOOK® AND HOW TO PROVIDE THAT ADDITIONAL SUPPORT TO CUSTOMERS.

THE FIFTH AND FINAL WEEK OF THE COURSE WILL FOCUS ON THE INFREQUENTLY USED MICROSOFT® APPLICATIONS; ACCESS® AND OFFICE365™. YOU WILL IDENTIFY COMMON DATABASE PRINCIPLES, PERFORM VARIOUS TASKS, AND TROUBLESHOOT PROBLEMS USING MICROSOFT® ACCESS®. THE OFFICE365™ PORTION OF THE WEEK WILL HELP IDENTIFY THE VARIOUS FEATURES, ADVANTAGES, AND IT TRENDS ASSOCIATED WITH CLOUD COMPUTING AND OFFICE365™.

THIS COURSE IS PART OF THE DESKTOP SUPPORT CERTIFICATE (CERT/DS) PROGRAM AND WILL ASSIST YOU IN GAINING A BETTER KNOWLEDGE OF VARIOUS MICROSOFT® APPLICATIONS. APPLICATIONS COVERED IN THE CERTIFICATE INCLUDE; WORD, EXCEL®, POWERPOINT®, OUTLOOK®, ACCESS®, AND OFFICE365™.
