Position Description: This job posting describes a full-time, professional position. CommCorp staff are currently working remotely due to the pandemic. Work will be primarily done remotely, with routine office visits in downtown Boston. The Controller is responsible for the execution of all accounting functions of the agency. This position is a leadership role reporting to the CFO expected to have a significant influence on our Accounting & Finance Operations. The responsibilities include ownership of the accounting functions, monitoring expenses and budgets per program, a managing staff members on the accounting team, and being a general resource for finance related inquiries. This function is crucial to the agency’s mission as the controller position is a new key finance position of the agency.Responsibilities May Include:This position is a valuable part of Commonwealth Corporation’s Finance Department located in Boston, MA. This position will report to the Chief Financial Officer. Specific responsibilities include:Maintain and control the general accounting functions related to managing the month end close process with the ability to generate and analyze all the ongoing financial operations and reporting (Income Statement, Balance Sheet and Cash Flow). Collaborate with the finance team and work directly with the CFO on budgeting and forecasting.Responsible for ensuring the integrity of our Accounting and financial operations. Oversee, evaluate, coach and manage 3-4 staff members in the finance departmentAct as primary liaison with contract managers, banking representatives, investment advisors and other key business relationships.Oversee and produce monthly and quarterly financial reports for both management and the Board.Oversee the preparation of the annual Audit and other required state and federal filings.Continue to develop and enhance operations and fiscal systems that thread through the entire organization.Assume a leadership role in producing the annual budget with the senior budget analyst, while ensuring a collaborative process with program directors.Maintain accurate financial records in Accufund and PaycomProvide financial analysis to Executive Leadership team (contract and operating expenses)Manage current financial systems and assist in researching, developing and implement new systems as needed.Make proactive recommendations for business improvements and growth opportunities to ensure financial stability and growth.Resolve accounting issues as they arise.Oversight of accounts payable, billing, payroll, cash position and month end accounting functionsCreate and provide process improvements where needed. Other ad hoc accounting duties to support the finance team and the organization.Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Include:Must have collaborative, helpful orientation dealing with all internal personnel of Finance and Commonwealth Corporation staffKnowledge and or interest in navigating existing and new technology to improve productivity and implement efficiencies. Must be able to prioritize, especially at peak periods; or know when it is necessary to confirm priorities with CFO.Detail-oriented with focus on accuracy. Ability to check own work prior to submitting to CFO.Proficiency with Excel and Microsoft Office Systems requiredExpected to willingly learn new general ledger system components and reporting, focusing on automation.Willingness and ability to perform day-to-day fiscal activities at all levels.Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, complete work accurately, and meet deadlines.Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.Self-motivated, independent, and pro-actively looks to take on new tasks and projects.Minimum QualificationsEXPERIENCE / SKILLS / ATTRIBUTES REQUIRED:Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; CPA/MBA a plus. Exceptional accounting skills7+ years accounting and/or progressive corporate experience, services industry a plus.3+ years managing, training and developing of staff/management level employees.Ability to handle multiple priorities while maintaining superior level of productivity.Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communications skills.Experience managing process improvement and efficiencies.Well organized and dependable, strong attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines.Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Intermediate/Advanced Excel is a requirement). Working knowledge of MS Access and AccuFund, or other accounting packages preferred.Experience with Paycom (outsourced payroll processor), knowledge of Cloud based financial system software and proficiency in Microsoft Office with emphasis on complex spreadsheet functions.Experience with creating and generating financial reports. Ability to analyze and problem-solve detailed issues.Experience with annual business filing and technical experience with system integrations are a plus.Experience with state and federal contracts a plusStrong technology skills specifically with accounting software packages and ExcelDedicated leader and commitment to fostering an exceptional team culture.Strong integrity and work ethic with an ability to self-manage.Ability and desire to see projects through to completion with eagerness to learn.
