Job Title: Communications Specialist

Job Summary:

Perform duties to produce communication materials and organize and facilitate special outreach events and employee charity efforts. Provide advice and support services for presentations, production requests and programs.

Essential Functions:

Assist in the planning, implementation and coordination of the District’s communication activities, programs and special events by organizing resources and prioritizing objectives.

Create a centralized collection of communications materials (photos, slides, graphics, presentations and newspaper clippings) and organize them into a system accessible to all employees.

Summarize and analyze information in order to produce communication products. Critically examine information for accuracy and quality.

Assist in design. Layout newsletters, brochures and advertisements. Produce audio visual aides and training and communication program materials as needed.

Achieve cooperation from other departments and individuals by conducting interviews, reviewing ideas, and researching subject matter for communication projects.

Gain willing cooperation for special events such as groundbreakings, press conferences and external meetings. Maintain good public relations.

Suggest the most appropriate medium and format for communication pieces and produce the final product in cooperation with user departments.

Maintain detailed records and complete routine administration.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Communications, English, Education or a closely related field.

Experience: One (1) to three (3) years related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Specific Skills: Proficient writing skills and excellent people skills.

Specialized Knowledge, Licenses, etc:

Computer literacy and extensive Macintosh desktop publishing experience. Advanced knowledge of Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Work and Adobe PageMaker 6.0.

Valid Ohio Driver License and a driving record in accordance with the District’s insurance carrier.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

None.

Working Conditions:

General office environment.

Physical Demands:

A majority of time spent sitting with occasional standing, walking, stooping or kneeling. Up to 40% of time spent out of doors.

Interfaces:

Internal: Interfaces with District personnel throughout the organization.

External: Interfaces with general public, agencies, and media.
