Job Title Volunteer Co-ordinator Macmillan Solutions Manchester

Responsible to: Northmoor Community Association Manager

Responsible for: Volunteers

Grade: £19,000 pro rata

Hours of Work: 21 hours (hours to be agreed)

Position: Fixed term funded until 30th June 2016

Purpose (a) Maintain and deliver a volunteer support service for people affected by cancer in the Manchester region.

(b) Recruit, train and manage volunteers

Main responsibilities

1. To be the main point of contact for the Manchester Macmillan Solutions Service.

2. To receive referrals into the Service.

3. Arranges home assessment visit with people affected by cancer to assess volunteer support required.

4. Refers people affected by cancer into other localised services if referral unsuitable for the Manchester Macmillan Solutions Service.

5. Matches appropriate volunteers; using Health and Safety/ Safeguarding legislation and local regulation.

6. Manages volunteers/recruits and trains volunteers.

7. Researching and updating volunteer policies and procedures to comply with legislation.

8. Increasing appropriate volunteering opportunities and role descriptions based on the needs of the organisation.

9. To carry out any other duties commensurate with the responsibillities of the post which may reasonably be requested by the Line Manager.

Measure of performance

1. Evidence of the number of people affected by cancer and their carers whom benefited from the service.

2. Evidence of the number of volunteers involved in the Service.

3. Qualitative evidence of the impact the Service has had on volunteers, people affected by cancer, their carers and professionals.

Person Specification

Knowledge Required

1. Knowledge and understanding of developing and delivering a volunteer support service to a vulnerable customer group.

2. Knowledge and understanding of partnership working in a Health and Social Care context.

3. Knowledge of best practice of volunteer management including stages of recruitment, induction, training and development and service delivery within a person’s home environment and in the community.

4. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with customers, volunteers and professionals.

5. Understanding of equalities and diversity best practice in relation to service delivery, development and recruitment of volunteers.

6. Knowledge of Health and Social Care services and how to utilise these to meet the needs of vulnerable customers i.e Housing Agencies, local Hospices, support groups etc.

Essential experience required

1. Experience of managing volunteers in the delivery of services to vulnerable people.

2. Experience of delivering induction and training programmes to groups of volunteers.

3. Experience of the provision of support and advice to volunteers and service users.

4. Experience of decision making based on risk assessment and safeguarding procedures.

5. Evidence of establishing, maintaining and monitoring information systems and procedures and writing reports of performance to a Steering Group and national funding Charity.

6. Experience of developing and using Excel database systems.
