Janet Harris-Lange seconded the motion, and the agenda was approved.Minutes of September 5, 2018, MeetingThe September 5, 2018 meeting minutes were approved as presented by general consent.Old BusinessReview of Regional Certification ReportsCommittee members shared and discussed the information discovered from their research on the various federal, state, and local certification programs offered in Jacksonville, Palm Beach and their surrounding areas.The Committee discussed the goal of helping small businesses better understand and navigate through the different certifications offered across the state.Each member will send their research in a document to OSD to be shared with the committee. The committee will then organize the information collected to make a recommendation to the Council.AnnouncementsJohnny Helms shared with the committee that Lumbee Resource Management received the Small Business of the Year Award from the Jax Chamber Information Technology Council. They also received the Small Minority Business of the Year Award from the Northeast Board of Education during the First Coast Business Alliance, Inc MED Week celebration.Chair Thompson shared with the committee that she received a community award from NAACP for her work on the NAACP Economic Development Committee. She also received an award from the Puerto Rican Chamber of Commerce and was recognized as one of the ten most influential women in Florida.Chair Thompson also informed the committee that MED WEEK is currently taking place in Jacksonville.Director Williams shared with the committee SBDC at UWF Facebook write up on committee member Christine Yerkes in honor of National Veteran Small Business Week. She congratulated Christine and encouraged the committee members to read it.
