JOB TITLE:INDIGENOUS YOUTH WORKERReports directly to the Executive Director or designate in the performance of responsibilities and duties.CORE COMPETENCIES:Competency and knowledge in alcohol and / or drug misuse, and mental health wellnessCultural Competency, Diversity and Inclusion: ability to effectively and respectfully work with youth of all Nations by sharing knowledge of Indigenous traditions, beliefs, and practicesDemonstrated knowledge and / or experience working within the Youth Justice ProcessPublic Relations. Able to develop and maintain professional relationships with referring agents: School District 57, Crown Counsel, RCMP, Probation, and community agentsInterpersonal communication skills: ability to establish positive rapport and trust of client group, community, and peer groupStrong report writing skills and ability to maintain a client databaseExperienced with the process of opening and closing client files. Client notesFacilitation: ability to organize, structure, and facilitate groupsCommunity service knowledge: ability to refer youth to appropriate support servicesMust be capable of being self- directed in setting priorities and determining workloadInformatics: uses technology in day to day duties: word processing, excel spreadsheets, internet, email software, and power pointREQUIREMENTS:Diploma or Certificate in Social Service with one year experience working with complex clients or combination of related education and experienceFacilitation skills mandatory requirementConflict resolution skills preferred with strong communication skillsPRIMARY SERVICE COMPONENTS:To expose youth to Indigenous Culture and practices, addiction education and awareness, and relapse prevention, based on the principles of the Medicine WheelTo increase pride in Indigenous Heritage and to decrease involvement with substance misuse and the criminal justice systemCOMMUNITY COLLABORATIONDemonstrate ability to develop and maintain professional relationships with referring agents, community partners and community at largeCLIENT SERVICESDemonstrate ability to develop and maintain professional relationships with at risk youthCASE MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIESThe Indigenous Youth Worker will be required to:Open and close client file(s); ensuring all documentation are compiled and organizedOrganize and facilitate Restorative Justice Circles, when requiredAssess client needs; make appropriate referrals to community supportsBe an advocate for services and community resource optionsREPORTSCompile month and year end statistical data report reflecting number of youth on caseload supported with a program report detailing activitiesMISCELLANEOUSHave a vehicle with current driver’s license and insuranceAssist in maintaining a work safe office environmentOther related duties as requested by the Executive DirectorADDITONAL ASSETSKnowledge and / or direct skills in providing Aboriginal ceremonies, and / or ability to teach drumming and singing would be an asset.HOURS OF WORK are from 8:30am to 4:30pm, Monday to Friday.Please submit your application (including a resume AND cover letter) to:Bill Pavich, Executive Directored@pguajs.ca ................
