Job DescriptionPosition Title: Education Outreach Specialist Department: Education & Public AffairsReports to: Bilingual Outreach CoordinatorLocation: TBDFLSA Status: ExemptGrade: 19Summary of position:The Education Outreach Specialist is responsible for targeted Outreach and Engagement activities that will result in increased access and utilization of PPMHV’s Health Services . The Education Outreach Specialist will work with the Bilingual Outreach Coordinator, Sexuality Education Coordinator and the Program & Data Manager to raise and expand awareness and utilization of PPMHV Health Services through engagement of priority targeted populations- including teens, low income, college age and diverse communities.Cultural awareness:All employees are required to demonstrate the importance of the ethical and cultural awareness commitment of Planned Parenthood by:Demonstrating empathy; recognizing inherent worth, and treating individuals with respect;Protecting confidentiality of staff;Appreciating the Planned Parenthood culture and its function in human behavior, and recognizing cultural strengths;Seeking to understand patient’s cultures and value of diversity to be able to provide competent services.Customer Service:Builds and maintains positive, quality relationships with customers, both internal (colleagues) and external (patients, clients, donors etc) Demonstrates commitment to exceeding customer expectations at every opportunityResponds positively to customer concerns and demonstrates effective problem solving skillsConsistently interacts positively with internal and external customersMandatory Reporting:Planned Parenthood has zero tolerance for non-compliance with our policies and procedures for addressing situations that endanger the welfare of minors, including our policies and procedures relating to state mandatory reporting laws.? This position is responsible for reporting all situations that endanger the welfare of minors as well as our policies and procedures relating to state mandatory reporting laws.? Qualifications: The position requires flexibility; strong engagement, presentation and interpersonal skills. Job involves travel throughout Planned Parenthood service region, with primary initial targets of Sullivan County with some additional outreach and program to other counties as needed. The position will sometimes require more than 37.5 hours per week, including evening and weekend activities.Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills; strong, effective oral and written communication skills.Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with community partners, interact effectively with diverse groups of individuals and ages and cultivates new relationships and venue networks.Ability to successfully manage multiple tasks simultaneously, set priorities and goals, follows through, and meets deadlines.Ability to solicit and engage participants around health care services. Basic competency with database software. Excellent organizational and networking skills; the ability to work independently and as a team member; ability to respond creatively to challenges and be pro-active in developing new strategies for overcoming obstacles and meeting goals.Solid understanding of women’s/reproductive health issues preferred.Experience in facilitating outreach activities preferredEnergetic, entrepreneurial and flexible; travel around the agency’s four-county service area and some evenings and weekends required.Ability to represent the agency professionally at all business levels.Associates Degree or Equivalent preferred. Ideal candidate will have experience in health education, outreach and community relations Must be committed to the mission of PPMHV. Bilingual preferred.Certificates, licenses and registrations: Valid NY State Driver’s License required (to meet the travel-throughout-the-agency service area requirement on an immediate and non pre-arranged basis)Essential Functions: include, but are not limited to, the following: Develop and cultivate extensive network of venues in targeted communities throughout the four county region. Examples of venues include but not limited to community college campuses, public housing complexes, homeless shelters, soup kitchens, head start programs, faith-based organizations, public service organizations, jails, etc.Conduct extensive outreach and engagement activities at designated venues to educate and engage targeted community members. Includes some evening and weekend hours as needed.Conduct street and community canvassing to promote PPMHV services at venues frequented by targeted populations including local businesses, salons, laundry mats, etc.Demonstrate successful linkages made with targeted communities and increased Health Services utilization via direct referrals and appointment scheduling.Physical demands:The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
