Part I: Volunteering in the Community.
← For your Service Learning Project, you must complete five hours of community service for one organization and it must have occurred between September 1, 2006 and May 11, 2007. After completing your community service, you will need a letter from a manager (or someone in charge) verifying your service hours.
Part II: Writing about Your Experience.
← After your community service is completed, you must write a 750 word reflective essay in MLA format about your experience. For 5% extra-credit, include a photo of your experience. You may also post your entry on the message board for additional 5% extra-credit.
Due Date: Monday, May 14, 2007
← Your community service must be completed by May 11, 2007 and your community service essay must be turned in on Monday, May 14, 2007.
Reflective Essay Requirements
Description = What? (Minimum 250+ Words)
← In detail, describe what you did. Be sure to name the organization for which you volunteered. Be clear and detailed enough to allow someone who does not know what you know about this organization or experienced what you did during your service to visualize and understand what you are describing.
Analysis = So What? (Minimum 250+ Words)
← In detail, analyze your service and your participation. Analysis deals with reasons, motives, and interpretations. Analysis shows the thought process that you use to arrive at conclusions, interpretations, reasons, and demonstrates the significance of the examples you give.
Reflections = Then What? (Minimum 250+ Words)
← Now, reflect on the experience you had. This is what you think now about your community service. Reflection refers to examples you have given. This thinking allows you to make decisions about how you would approach a similar situation in the future. Reflection explains what you have learned from the experience you described.
