COMPARE AND CONTRAST ESSAY ASSIGNMENT

Using what you have learned about Beowulf as a hero, write an essay of at least seven paragraphs in which you effectively compare and contrast him to another hero, real or fictional.

1. The essay must be clearly organized, block-by-block. (See below outline as reviewed in our writing workshops.)

2. Include a minimum of three points of comparison/contrast. (Minimums: 2 points of comparison and 1 point of contrast.)

3. Focus on smooth transitions that help illuminate the analysis between the character types: first, second, next, also, furthermore, in comparison, in contrast, etc.

4. Include at least one direct quote to support each analysis and paragraph.

5. Turn in any notes, brainstorming, or rough draft, along with the final draft.

Final Points as Reviewed and Required:

1. Write in 3rd person

2. You may turn-in any notes, brainstorming, venn-diagrams; all work must be electronically completed or handwritten no later than the day of your scheduled 2nd semester exam. No late work will be accepted past the final exam date unless an excused note is presented via the main office.

3. Analysis comes from 2nd semester short stories, 2 characters, and 1 character of choice from your current novel, Wish You Well, or Picture Bride.

4. All final drafts must be legible, printed, or very neatly handwritten on the day of the final exam.

5. All information must be uniquely composed and not copied from the internet.

6. Work that is plagiarized will receive zero credit. No opportunity will be provided to rewrite plagiarized work!

7. Remember that this final essay is your final exam grade and valued as 1/5 of your 2nd semester final comprehensive score.
