Action time!

by Silvija Mađarić

For the end of this school year, I have prepared an online game for your second-year students called Multiple-Choice Quiz.

Why use it?

- to introduce or revise lesson What’s up in Unit 6 – The weekend

- to teach and practise new actions using present continuous with He is / She is

- to create a positive classroom environment that is going to engage and motivate your students externally

What skills are developed?

- reading skills

How is it played?

There are eight pictures in the game. When your students start the quiz, they will see one picture of our friend from Building Blocks textbook. Under the picture there will be four sentences. They have to read sentences and chose what is our friend doing in the picture. They have to click on the circle next to the picture. After that, they will check the solution and get feedback. They continue on the next question. At the end of the quiz they will see their quiz result.

What else can you do?

Before playing this online game, you can add a bit of TPR and reading. This game is played in pairs. You have to prepare sentences written on pieces of paper. You will write actions which you want your students to acquire. Every student will take one piece of paper with a written sentence on it and mime it until his/her pair guesses. When guessing the action, they must make a complete sentence of what his pair is miming. For example: You are dancing.

After the student guessed the action, students change roles. With this activity, your students will practice reading and speaking skills.

Which tool has been used?

This game has been created with LearningApps. This is a Web 2.0 application for supporting learning and teaching processes with small interactive modules.

What do you need to use this activity?

This game can be played as a whole-class activity, or your students can play it in groups, pairs or individually. It depends on the equipment available in your classroom. For this activity you will need a computer, a projector (if your class is big), and an Internet connection. Your students can also use smartphones or tablets. You just need to provide them with a link to this game.
