Steps and Dates to Remember for
OTC Admissions Checklist, 2019-20
If you anticipate you’ll qualify for A+ Eligibility after graduation and plan to attend OTC, this checklist should help make the transition from high school to college a little easier. If you plan to attend a different MO public community college with your A+ scholarship, check with that college or visit their website to access new student information.
( Registration for new college students at OTC begins on November 13, for Spring 2020 and April 21, for Summer/Fall 2020. This requires completion of all steps listed below BEFORE registering!
You can start completing the steps today!
( OTC’s website otc.edu is an excellent resource for information for college students.
( Student Services/Admissions (447-6900) is also a valuable OTC resource if you have questions.
( STEP 1: Complete an OTC Application for Admission as soon as possible. Don’t wait!!
← Apply for admission before filing the FAFSA. This allows OTC to set up a student file for any paperwork or results that may be sent. Apply online at otc.edu
← If you are seeking admission to one of the Allied Health selective admission programs, you’ll need to inquire with OTC to determine if there are additional steps you need to go through for these programs.
( STEP 2: FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) (The 2020-21 FAFSA application will open October 1, 2019)
← Students and parents should first set up a FSA ID
← Steps for completing the FAFSA and applying for financial aid:
*OTC’s FAFSA Code is 030830 (Other school codes are available on the FAFSA website)
*Give student and parent e-mail addresses when filing the FAFSA. E-mail is the fastest way to receive information regarding the status of an application. DO NOT use your @sps email address! That email will go away once you have graduated!
*Making a good faith effort to first secure all available federal sources of financial aid that don’t require repayment is an important requirement of A+ eligibility. The FAFSA is considered your good faith effort.
*If students fail to file the FAFSA prior to college enrollment, access to A+ Scholarships may be in jeopardy.
*Filing the FAFSA is not a one-time requirement! You MUST file an updated FAFSA each year you’re in college.
( File the FAFSA online at fafsa. This is a free website—beware of other sites which may charge
a fee!!! IMPORTANT—FILE THE CORRECT FAFSA WHEN USING A+ SCHOLARSHIPS
• After the FAFSA is filed and processed, a Student Aid Report (SAR) with the EFC (Expected Family Contribution) will be sent to OTC. The earlier the FAFSA is filed, the better.
( STEP 3: Complete an OTC Orientation Session
← Navigate to the First-time College Student page again
← Under “Things to do before you Register for Classes”: ( select View Orientation ( follow directions given
← All new OTC students are required to complete the orientation prior to advisement (STAR) and enrolling in classes.
( STEP 4: Guided Self-Placement
← Guided self-placement is an alternative to timed placement tests like the ACT; this process will help you decide what English, reading and math courses you need to take that are applicable to your experience.
( STEP 5: Request your Official Transcripts
← You will have to request a final transcript be sent from Parkview High School
← If you have taken dual credit classes, you must have the college send your official college transcripts to OTC. Transcripts should be mailed to: Admissions Office, Ozarks Technical Community College, 1001 E. Chestnut Expressway, Springfield, MO 65802 (or email to: admissions.otc.edu) **It is often handy to get a copy of your MSU transcript for yourself so that you know what you have already taken once you are ready to enroll for classes at OTC!
( STEP 6: Attend a STAR Seminar and take advantage of free academic and career explorations services
← All new students are required to attend a STAR Seminar (STudent Advising & Registration). Select ‘Schedule a STAR Appointment’ and schedule a STAR seminar at the Springfield or Richwood Valley Campus.
← You may also want to complete the Academic and Career Exploration service (ACE) if you need assistance with deciding on a college major and/or career choice decisions. Select ‘ACE: Academic & Career Exploration’ to begin that process
( Register for Classes On-Line
New Students: The STAR seminar will guide you through developing an education plan and how to schedule and register for your classes
← Registration requires completion of all steps listed above.
← Students must be seeking a degree from OTC (or other Missouri public community college or vocational/technical school) to be eligible to use their A+ scholarship.
← The A+ Program does not cover the cost of textbooks and certain fees.
← The earlier students register, the more choices they’ll have in class offerings and times.
( STEP 7: Register for a Payment Plan – My Payment Plan
← After registering for classes, students must enroll in My Payment Plan-THIS MUST BE DONE WITHIN 24 HOURS OR REGISTERING FOR CLASSES!!!. Students who are receiving financial aid (such as A+ or a Pell grant) must register for a payment plan even though other funds will be made available!!!
( See your high school registrar for details on transcripts
