Directions: Respond to the following scenarios and questions in a way that will demonstrate your understanding of the concepts discussed in Human Relations this quarter. There 20 possible points per scenario based on the completeness of your answer and the incorporation of the concepts presented in your text. Your response will be graded on how well you incorporate the concepts we have studied and how thoroughly you answer the questions. Remember, length does not necessarily equate with completeness.

Your responses must be typed (Times New Roman, Century Gothic or Arial),

font 12, double spaced between paragraphs only. Number the pages and

attach this direction sheet to your submission. An additional 50 points may b

earned for following directions.

1. Your best friend has been married almost a year. At first you and she

continued your custom of having lunch and going to a movie once a week. Then, she began to cancel at the last minute; once, didn’t cancel but failed to meet you. Today, she arrives at the restaurant wearing dark glasses. She says she cannot stay for the movie, as her husband expects her home in an hour. When she adjusts her glasses, you notice bruises on her arm. What are some appropriate statements you could make to her? Or should you ignore what you have seen?

2. Explain what is meant by complimentary therapy. Compare and contrast the anticipated benefits of the therapy with the possible side effects or compliments.

3. Identify one significant change that occurs in each of the six life stages and discuss the different ways people react to those changes.

4. What are the different ways a patient might react to illness and what are some of the factors that influence these reactions?

5. Explain why should discuss a problem you have with your coworker in person before going to your supervisor.

6. Describe your reactions to a significant loss you have experienced. Which of your reactions were healthy? Which were unhealthy? Do you think you will be better prepared for future losses because of your experience, or is each case different and unpredictable?

7. List and give your explanation of the five stages of grief as presented by Dr. Kubler-Ross.

8. Respond to the following: “Life choices can promote health and well being.”

9. Think of the ways mentioned in class and presented in your text about stress. What are some of the ways to relieve stress that work for you? Which ideas presented in class could you try that might work for you?

10. Describe three significant contributions to healthcare since 1980. Explain how each of these contributions have or will change the face of healthcare.

11. Your classmate says, “I think all this study about understanding yourself is a waste of time.” Write a brief response to this statement. Use the following as a basis for your reasoning: (a) the importance of adjustment to living a full life and (b) the importance of self-understanding for health care providers.

12. Write out a set of guidelines for your next of kin describing the care you wish to receive when you are terminally ill.

13. Which of the concepts in Human Behavior have been the most valuable to you? Explain your answer.
