CompTIA Security+ Certification

Fall 2017

Course Description: CompTIA Security+ is the primary course you will need to take if your job responsibilities include securing network services, devices and traffic in your organization. In this fast-paced course, you will build on your knowledge of and professional experience with security fundamentals, networks and organizational security. You will acquire the specific skills required to implement basic security services on any type of computer network.

Today's job market demands individuals with demonstrable skills. The information and activities in this course can help you build your computer security skill set so that you can confidently perform your duties in any security-related role. Also, if you intend to pass the CompTIA Security+ (Exam SY0-401) certification examination, this course can be a significant part of your preparation. You will implement, monitor and troubleshoot infrastructure, application, information and operational security.

Delivery Method: Instructor-led lecture, group-based, classroom-delivery learning model with supplemental on-line learning and structured hands-on activities.

Target Student: This course is targeted toward the information technology (IT) professional who has networking and administrative skills in Windows-based Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) networks; familiarity with other operating systems, such as Mac OS X, Unix, or Linux; or who wants to further a career in IT by acquiring foundational knowledge of security topics. This course will also prepare you for the CompTIA Security+ certification examination or use Security+ as the foundation for advanced security certifications or career roles.

Prerequisites: Basic Windows skills and fundamental understanding of computer and networking concepts are required. Students can obtain this level of skill and knowledge by taking courses such as Windows 7: Level 1 and Level 2 offered at HyperLearning Technologies. CompTIA A+ and Network+ certifications, or equivalent knowledge, and six to nine months experience in networking, including configuring security parameters, are strongly recommended. Additional introductory courses in operating system administration for Windows Server 2008R2 or 2012 R2, UNIX or Linux are helpful but not required. A pre-assessment will be required to test student's prior IT knowledge to determine suitability for this class, and attendance at an orientation will be required prior to the start of class.

Student Hardware Requirements: Flash drive or external USB hard drive.

Cost: $1,999 Includes course materials and certification exam (one attempt only)
