Six Weeks: Grade Level : 2nd Grade Objectives for Six Weeks : Use digital resources to create products using the TEKS at grade level.Students will learn about the parts of a spreadsheet.Student will create simple bar graphs in excel with guidance. Student will learn to use web 2.0 tools to construct knowledge about develop digital products. Student will learn to use the internet to search for information. TEKS Addressed: 1) Creativity and innovation. The student uses creative thinking and innovative processes to construct knowledge and develop digital products. The student is expected to:(A) apply prior knowledge to develop new ideas, products, and processes;(B) create original products using a variety of resources;4) Critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making. The student applies critical-thinking skills to solve problems, guide research, and evaluate projects using digital tools and resources. The student is expected to:(D) collect, analyze, and represent data using tools such as word processing, spreadsheets, graphic organizers, charts, multimedia, simulations, models, and programming languages.6) Technology operations and concepts. The student demonstrates knowledge and appropriate use of technology systems, concepts, and operations. The student is expected to:(A) use appropriate terminology regarding basic hardware, software applications, programs, networking, virtual environments, and emerging technologies;(B) use appropriate digital tools and resources for storage, access, file management, collaboration, and designing solutions to problems;(C) perform basic software application functions, including opening an application and creating, modifying, printing, and saving files;(D) use a variety of input, output, and storage devices;(E) use proper keyboarding techniques such as ergonomically correct hand and body positions appropriate for Kindergarten-Grade 2 learning;(F) demonstrate keyboarding techniques for operating the alphabetic, numeric, punctuation, and symbol keys appropriate for Kindergarten-Grade 2 learning5)Digital Citizenship : (A) adhere to acceptable use policies reflecting appropriate behavior in a digital environmentWeeks /Learning applied/ Applied to curriculum 1st week Cyber Bullying is the focus for the 4th Six Weeks in Birdville. Teachers will have a video and activities to do with students. ITS website. Cyber bullying will be addressed across the district from k-12th grade with teachers discussing cyber bullying as the main topic. This is a video with Garfield and friends. Students will watch video about cyber bullying then click on the Try button and then the Apply button. This takes them through an activity to see what they have learned. Students could make posters in Word or in Kid Pix’s about the things that learned through watching the video. The most original could be posted on the school websiteOr you can assign: : Cyberbullying if you feel appropriate for grade level 2nd week Students are learning about graphs in math. Introduction into spreadsheets is the beginning of bar graphs and etc. Assign in : Parts of a Spreadsheet , tables and data, cell formatting ,columns and rows, pie charts, bar graphs 3rd week Continue Lessons on Math: Application of Graphs ( I will place a video tutorial on the ITS website if you do not feel comfortable teaching this for you to view) 1st Lesson : Collect Data from Class: Eye Color of Class Have a list on board with Eye color choices Poll the class and collect the data : Enter the information in Excel Locate and Open Excel Explore the File Tab Explore and Place information in the cells. Save this data on the first visit into Student Folder. 2nd Lesson: Open Saved Excel Document Use the graph tool to create a simple bar graph insert into Worksheet on Excel. Save document in Student folder. 4th week Introduce the online resource Kerpoof: We now have a site for the elementary team where these sites are posted along with PDFs to help you in making this successful. Web 2.0 tools to produce digital products. Students will use this online resource to draw pictures. Pictures can be printed but not saved except for saving in Kerpoof for ( Online resource for you to learn Kerpoof will draw pictures using tools. You will need to model how to use the basic drawing tools.5th week Assign Lessons in Browsing and URL Keyword Searches Sources and Ethics Tumblebooks: Assign the book : Surfing SafelyStudents will learn about the world wide webAfter lessons have students use the sites below and explore the Symbols of Texas using the internet. Symbols of Texas Website: week Create Texas Symbol –Kerpoof or Kid Pixs Students can use Kerpoof or Kid Pixs to draw a symbol of Texas and write a fact about what they have learned about the symbol.
