Job DescriptionDoITT provides for the sustained, efficient and effective delivery of IT services, infrastructure and telecommunications to enhance service delivery to New York City's residents, businesses, employees and visitors. As the City's technology leader, DoITT is responsible for maintaining the foundational IT infrastructure and systems that touch every aspect of City life from public safety to human services, from education to economic development crossing the full spectrum of governmental operations. The successful candidate will serve as a Senior Architect Cloud Network Design and Engineering reporting to the IT Services Division. Responsibilities will include: Implement and support new network technologies and architecture in support of our on premise, hybrid and cloud environments; develop and deliver network architectures and design involving Software Defined Networking (SDN) and Network Function Virtualization (NFV) technologies to drive network agility and operational efficiencies; provide thought leadership, strategy and lead innovation by exploring, investigating, recommending, benchmarking and implementing technologies for SDN and cloud service orchestration; and handle special projects and initiatives as assigned.Minimum Qualification RequirementsCandidates must possess at least one of the following Professional/vendor certification(s) in local area network administration:Cisco CCNP or CCIE In addition, candidates must possess the following:1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, and two years of satisfactory full-time (not classroom based) experience in local area network planning, design, configuration, installation, troubleshooting, integration, performance monitoring, maintenance, enhancement, and security management; -or-2. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and six years of satisfactory fulltime (not classroom based) information technology experience of which at least 2 years must have been as described in "1" above; -or-3. A masters degree in computer science or a related field from an accredited college may substitute for one year of experience. However, all candidates must have at least one year of satisfactory (not classroom based) full-time information technology experience as described in "1" above.Note: In addition to meeting the minimum Qualification Requirements: Incumbents may be required to update existing and/or obtain additional professional industry-standard certification(s) for current and future technical environment(s) in which they may be assigned to work, as determined by the employing agency.Preferred SkillsThe preferred candidate should possess the following: Prototype architecture to demonstrate conceptual operation and assess technical feasibility; develop software and virtualization technology design and strategy for next generation services; analyze networking and software technologies and vendors to support service requirements; provide thought leadership, strategy and lead innovation by exploring, investigating, recommending, benchmarking and implementing technologies for SDN and cloud service orchestration; strong experience developing and delivering network architectures and design involving Software Defined Networking (SDN) and Network Function Virtualization (NFV) technologies to drive network agility and operational efficiencies; direct work experience involving LAN and WAN network design, data center architecture, Cloud concepts and operation; highly proficient and hands on experience in the following inter networking technologies IGP (OSPF/ISIS), MBGP/BGP, Multicast, MPLS, L2VPN (VPLS,EVPN), L3VPN, L2 switching, TCP/IP, IPv6, VXLAN, Open flow; demonstrated experience in design, engineering, and virtualization in the cloud environment including: virtual machine deployment and management, cloud orchestration, service instantiation and assurance, and cloud analytics; knowledge of security and enterprise architecture; experience in architecting and building data center fabrics with high availability and high scalability; expert-level working experience with Cisco IOS including configuration and troubleshooting; fluent and demonstrated experience of routing protocols to include: BGP, MPLS, OSPF, EIGRP and QoS; Cisco Nexus Product experience; extensive technology and design experience involving, Networking Protocols, Ethernet transport and Virtual/Cloud Network Architectures; proven experience in: Application Development related to network service delivery (configuration and provisioning), Network Virtualization, Security and Data Center architecture, Cloud Platform deployment involving infrastructure management, service orchestration and instantiation, and business logic integration.To ApplySpecial Note: Taking and passing the Certified IT Administrator (LAN/WAN) civil service exam will be necessary to maintain employment with the City of New York.
