Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.: The Xi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority will offer 4 scholarships this spring; one $1500 scholarship, one $1000 scholarship, one $500 athletic scholarship, and a $500 book award. The criteria for each scholarship varies slightly but all-in-all, a student must be accepted to a college and have at least a 2.7 GPA. For each scholarship, there is an essay entitled “How I Can Make A Difference” that must be included. The completed application and essay must be returned no later than March 28, 2008.

National Association of Women Business Owners: The Baltimore Regional Chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners is please to announce its Barbara Balter Entrepreneurial Spirit Scholarship. This year NAWBO-BRC will award a scholarship to an eligible female high school senior who had demonstrated entrepreneurial talents and live in the state of Maryland. The scholarship is values at $1000. The completed application must be postmarked no later than March 31, 2008. So if you have ever make and sold jewelry, raised and sold an animal, provided a food program for the homeless or created and implemented a Spanish speaking program for children, you may qualify.

Northrop Grumman Engineering Scholarship: Northrop Grumman has just launched new college scholarships for engineering students. $10,000 will be awarded to one student in each of the 23 Maryland counties and Baltimore City. Applicants must be a resident of Maryland graduating in the spring of 2008. They must attend an accredited college or university as a full-time student in an approved engineering program, have a minimum score of 1700 on the SAT’s and a minimum GPA of 3.5 form grades 9-12. St. Edward’s University: St. Edward’s University, located in Austin, Texas, offers the Holy Cross Scholarship for students with at least a 1250 SAT or a 28 ACT and a ranking in the top 10% of their class. Each outstanding student chosen for this award will receive @12,500 annually for four years as long as the student maintains a 3.5 GPA. Applications to St. Edward’s University are available in guidance. February 1, 2008 is the deadline for submitting completed applications.

Fashion Group Foundation of Washington DC, Inc.: The Fashion Group Scholarship is designed

for students majoring in fashion, fashion related fields or interior design with awards of up to

$5000 for one academic year. The applicant must have demonstrated academic achievement and

involvement in the fashion field. To apply, you must be admitted to an accredited college or

university. The completed application must be postmarked no later than April 19, 2008.

Maryland Association of Elementary School Principals (MAESP): MAESP is pleased to offer a

scholarship to prospective elementary school teachers. The scholarship awards is valued at $1000.

The recipient must attend a college or university in Maryland to be considered. The completed form

must be postmarked no later than April 9, 2008.

Northrop Grumman awards a $10,000 scholarship to one graduating high school student in each

Maryland County for students who are entering college to pursue a degree in engineering. To be

considered, you must be a resident of Maryland, have a minimum GPA of 3.5, a composite SAT score

of 1700, and plan to attend an accredited college or university as a full-time student in an approved

engineering program. Applications and detailed instructions are available in guidance.

State of Maryland International Reading Association Council; the Joseph Fox, Jr. Memorial

Scholarship: This scholarship valued at $1000 is available to all Maryland high school graduates

who plan to major in reading or a reading-related field and pursue coursework that will prepare

him/her for a teaching career. The completed application must be postmarked no later than April

5, 2005.

True Joy Ministries Scholarship: True Joy Ministries would like to recognize high school

students by awarding two $1000 scholarships to exceptional graduates. One scholarship will be

awarded for academic excellence and the second scholarship will be awarde3d for outstanding

community service/volunteer. The criteria for each scholarship is outlined on the application which

is filed in guidance. The completed application must be received no later than March 18, 2008.

Upper Chesapeake Medical Center Volunteer Services Association: The Upper Chesapeake

Medical Center Volunteer Services Association is offering 10 scholarships in the amount of $1000

each to students entering a medical related field. All completed applications must be received by

Upper Chesapeake by Friday, April 14, 2008.

Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.: This scholarship is open to high school graduates who are working

toward a college degree or a certificate from an accredited technical school. Applicants may be

current high school seniors, high school students, or technical school students. Completed

applications must be received by the Scholarship Committee by April 25, 2008.

The Sheffield Institute: Candidates must have a personal interest in a Sheffield Institute

program and be able to illustrate this interest by extra curricular activities or membership in a

group or club. Examples would be a graduate who belonged to the high school’s AV club, a band

member, or a student who participated in a multimedia curriculum program. All applications and

interviews must be done by April 1, 2008.

The Baltimore District, Inc. Nursing Scholarship Committee: This scholarship is open to

students who wish to pursue a Nursing Career after graduation from high school. The scholarship

value will be at least $3,725. The deadline for students to submit the completed application to the

office is March 24, 2008.

The J.M. Huber Corporation Scholarship is offering two $5000 scholarships for those bound for

Harford Community College in the 2008-2009 school year. Applicants must be a full-time student with a

minimum GPA of 3.0, be an Applied Science & Technology or Applied Mathematics/Statistics major, and

be a Maryland resident. The deadline for this scholarship is May 15, 2008.

9-11th grade students: The Susana DeMoya Foundation is accepting applications from 1st and 2nd generation Dominican students.  Students will be based on academic achievement, civic service, personal attributes, and Dominican heritage.  The application is available online at and must be submitted by April 30, 2008.

All students:  is a scholarship program valued at $5,000 open to students 13 years and older.  Students must complete a scholarship search profile online at and respond to the following topic:  “How will a $5000 scholarship for education make a difference in your life?”  The deadline to apply is March 31 and April 30, 2008.  

All students:  Junior Achievement and Ernst and Young invite students to compete for a $1000 scholarship by participating in the 5th Annual Youth Entrepreneur of the Year competition.  It is open to any student who has started and runs his/her own business.  Applications must be submitted by April 1, 2008.  For more information visit .  

Juniors Only:  The Alexander Hamilton Friends Association announces the 2008 Alexander Hamilton Citizenship Achievement Award.  Top winners receive a $500 cash scholarship and win an all –expense paid trip to Seattle in June 2009.  To be eligible students must have performed his or her leadership and service activities on or after January 2007.  More information is available online at .  Applications must be submitted by April 18, 2008.

Juniors Only:  Princeton U is accepting applications for the Princeton U Poetry Prize valued at up to $500 for first prize.  Applicants must submit up to three poems with name, address, email address, telephone number, and high school on each poem.  Submissions must be postmarked by March 21, 2008. 

Juniors Only:  Capitol College presents “Jump Start Juniors” on April 17, 2008 from 9-2pm.  Juniors will have the opportunity to learn about the admissions and financial aid processes, tour the campus and hear about all that Capitol College has to offer.  For information, contact Sheila Taylor in the office of admissions at 800-950-1992, ext. 3029.    

Juniors and seniors:  Interested in an internship?  Applications are being accepted for the Law Links Internship for this summer beginning June 16-August 1, 2008.  Students who have at least a “C” average, have good attendance, and aspire to be a lawyer or other legal professional are encouraged to apply.  Students will be paid $6.50/hour.  Applications are available online at and must be submitted by May 2, 2008.    

Keller Williams Realty is accepting applications for their 3rd Annual Scholarship for Books valued at $500.  One student from each high school will be selected to receive this scholarship.  Applications are available in the career center and with your counselor.  Completed applications must be submitted by March 15, 2008. 

The Neediest Kids Jazz Ensemble is sponsoring the 2008 Keter Betts Music Scholarship valued at $2000.  Students must have at least a 3.0 GPA, be proficient on a particular instrument, and a jazz musician.  Students must submit a nomination form and resume to Mrs. Collins-Swain by March 15, 2008.  

The University of Michigan Club of Washington, D.C. offers one $20,000 merit/need-based scholarship to a student who plans to enroll at the University of Michigan.  Applications are available on the web at washdc/  and are due by March 21, 2008.

The Consortium of Information and Telecommunications Executives offers a scholarship for African American students with a GPA of 3.0 who plan to major in business.  The total family income must be $55,000 or less.  No employee of Verizon or its affiliates is eligible.  Applications are available online at and must be submitted by March 21, 2008.  Other scholarships for dependents of Verizon are available here as well.   

The Washington DC Chapter of NNOA is accepting applications for their 2008 Scholarship Awards Program.  Each scholarship is valued at $1000.  Each scholarship requires at least a 2.5 GPA to qualify.  Applications are available online at or (Click on Programs) and must be submitted by March 22, 2008.

The BIG-FEE Scholarship Program is for children, stepchildren, and grandchildren of civilian government employees who are members in good standing of Blacks in Government.  Applicants must have at least a 3.0 GPA.  Applications are available online at and must be postmarked by March 28, 2008. 

Microsoft is accepting applications for the Blacks at Microsoft African American Heritage Scholarship.  Students must declare a major in engineering, computer science, computer information systems or business.  Students must also demonstrate a passion for technology, demonstrate leadership, and have a 3.3 GPA.  Applications are available online at about/diversity/programs/dac/bam/scholarships.mspx and must be postmarked by March 29, 2008.

The Asian American Journalist Association is accepting applications for the Vincent Chinn Memorial Scholarship valued at $5000.  Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders who plan to pursue journalism in college are eligible to attend.  Applications are available online at and must be submitted by March 28, 2008.  

The Army Officers’ Wives Club of the Greater Washington Area will be awarding scholarships to qualified applicants for the 2008-2009 school year.  Eligible applicants must be a dependent of U.S. Army personnel.  Applications are available online at and must be postmarked by March 31, 2008. 

The Youth Pride Alliance a non profit organization that supports gay, lesbian bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning youth is sponsoring a scholarship in memoriam of Wanda Alston.  Scholarships will be awarded to two people who best exemplify the spirit and dedication of these two people.  Applications are available online at and must be postmarked by March 31, 2008. 

The Washington Metropolitan Area Chapters of the Order of AHEPA is accepting applications for the 38th Annual AHEPA Awards.  Students must have an affiliation with Greek Orthodox Church, have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 and have participated in extracurricular activities.  Applications are available online at education and must be postmarked by March 31, 2008. 

The Blacks in Government National Maritime Intelligence Center Chapter Scholarship Program is accepting applications from seniors who have at least a 2.5 GPA.  Students must submit an essay on a selected topic and submit two recommendations.  Applications must be postmarked by March 31, 2008. 

The Eta Chapter of Maryland Alpha Delta Kappa announces a scholarship in the amount of $1000 for a graduating female senior who is interested in pursuing a career in education.  Applicants must have at least a 3.0 GPA.  Applications are available in the career center and must be submitted by April 1, 2008. 

The National Gay Pilots Association (NGPA) Education Fund provides educational assistance to students pursuing aviation careers as professional pilots and who have demonstrated community involvement including support of the gay, lesbian, bi-sexual, and transgender community.  A $2000 scholarship will be awarded to a student who pursues a degree in aerospace, aerodynamics, engineering, airport management, etc.  Applications are available online at and must be submitted by April 1, 2008.   

The Haynes and Frederick Scholarship Fund, Inc. is accepting applications for their scholarship for “C” students only.  Students must submit a 300-500 word essay on “why a college education is important to completing my lifetime goals.”  Applications are available online at and must be postmarked by April 1, 2008. 

Ft. Meade Officers’ Wives’ Club will be awarding the Etta Baker Memorial Scholarship to a student who has a parent/guardian that is assigned to, attached to, or living on Fort Meade, or on active duty and living within 30 miles of Fort Meade.  Students must have a 3.0 GPA.  Applications are available online at and must be submitted by April 1, 2008. 

The Columbia 300 John Jowdy Scholarship in the amount of $500 is awarded annually to a high school senior who is actively involved in the sport of bowling.  Applications are available online at and must be submitted by April 1, 2008. 

Black Women in Sisterhood for Action, Inc. is accepting applications for their $4000 scholarship.  Students must be African-American females who demonstrate academic achievement, leadership potential, and financial need.  Applications must be submitted by April 1, 2008 and are available on the web at scholarships/instruction.html. 

The Charles H. Wesley Masonic Lodge No. 147 is accepting applications for their academic achievement scholarships.  Students must have at least a 2.5 GPA and submit an essay.  Applications are available in the career center and must be postmarked by April 1, 2008.  

The Jewish Social Services Agency has several scholarships and loans available to students who are Jewish.  Awards are based on financial need, rather than merit.  Applications are available online at and must be submitted by April 2, 2008. 

The Andrews Air Force Base Officers’ Spouses Club is accepting applications for their educational scholarship.  Seniors who are military family members or those of civilian DOD employees assigned at Andrews AFB are eligible for an award.  Applications are available in the career center and must be submitted by April 4, 2008.

The Minority Affairs Committee of Prince George’s County Educator’s Association will award scholarships in the amount of $500 to minority students who have at least a “B” average, are good citizens at school and in the community, and have exhibited leadership qualities in school and/or community.  Applications must be postmarked by April 4, 2008. 

The RJ Lambert Scholar Athlete Foundation is accepting applications from student athletes who have at least a 2.5 GPA and have played a varsity sport for at least 2 years.   Applications are available online at pgcps.pg.k12.md.us/~douglass/forms/guidance and must be submitted by April 4, 2008. 

Educational Systems Federal Credit Union is sponsoring its annual Dorothy Marvil Memorial Scholarship Essay contest.  Five scholarships in the amount of $1000 each will be awarded to students.  Eligible students must be a primary member of Educational Systems Federal Credit Union and have at least a “C” average.  Essays and applications must be postmarked by April 7, 2008.  Applications are available online at . 

Blacks in Government Dept. of Health and Human Services/College Park Complex Chapter will award two $1000 scholarships to students who have at least a 2.5 GPA and submit an essay.  Applications are available in the career center and must be postmarked by April 7, 2008.

The Maryland Association of Elementary School Principals is pleased to offer the Dr. Kenneth E. Mann scholarship to prospective elementary school teachers who plan to attend a school in Maryland.  The award is $1000.  Applications are available online at wcboe.k12.md.us.  Click on “schools.”  Click on “Fountain Rock Elementary.”  Applications must be postmarked by April 9, 2008. 

The Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association is accepting applications for their scholarships valued at up to $6,000.  Scholarships will be awarded based on academic achievement, school and community activities, part-time work, financial need, and letters of recommendation.  Students must plan to major in computer science, engineering, mathematics, physics, chemistry, or management information systems.  Applications are available online at scholarships and must be postmarked by April 10, 2008.

The Combined Military Retiree’s Association of the District of Columbia is accepting applications for the Morris T. Allen Scholarship.  A $500 scholarship will be awarded to a student based on academic achievement, extracurricular activities, financial income and recommendations.  Applications must be submitted by April 10, 2008.   

The Carl T. Rowan Chapter of Blacks in Government is accepting applications for the Evangeline J. Montgomery Scholarship.  Six $1000 scholarships will be awarded to students.  Students must submit a required essay.  Applications are available in the career center and must be postmarked by April 11, 2008. 

The Joseph Fox, Jr. Memorial Scholarship worth $1000 will be awarded to a student who plans to major in reading or a reading related field and has a 3.2 GPA or better.  Students must also document current or previous community service in education related activities or organizations/clubs, etc.  Applications must be postmarked by April 15, 2008.    

The Catching the Dream Organization is accepting applications for their Catching the Dream Scholarship open to seniors who are at least ¼ Native American and enrolled as a member of a U.S. Tribe.  Preference will be given to those who will study math, science, engineering, business, education, or computers.  Applications are available online at scholarship.htm and must be received by April 15, 2008. 

The American Health and Beauty Aids Institute (AHBAI) is accepting applications for the Fred Luster, Sr. Education Scholarship Fund valued at $250-$500.  Students majoring in Chemistry, Business, or Engineering and have at least a 3.0 GPA are eligible to apply.  Applications are available online at and must be submitted by April 15, 2008. 

Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. Hyattsville/Landover Alumni Chapter is offering scholarships to minority students who have at least a 2.5 GPA.  Applications can be downloaded from and must be submitted by April 15, 2008.

The Holland and Knight Charitable Foundation announces the 2008 Young Native Writers Essay Contest opened to Native American high school students to research and elaborate on historic or contemporary issues affecting their community.  It offers an all expense paid trip to Washington, DC and college scholarships ranging from $1000 to $5000 to the top five winning essayists.  For more information visit indian..  Entries must be submitted by April 15, 2008.   

 Kappa Epsilon Lambda Education Foundation, Inc. is accepting applications from African American males for their scholarship.  Students must have at least a 2.2 GPA and submit an essay.  Applications are available in the career center and must be postmarked by April 15, 2008.   

The Angie M. Houtz Memorial Fund is accepting applications from students for a $3000 scholarship.  Students must have at least a 3.0 GPA, be accepted into a two or four year college in Maryland, and participate in at least 100 hours of community service.  Applications are available online at and must be submitted by April 15, 2008. 

The Alfred Street Baptist Church Foundation is accepting applications for their $20,000 scholarship.  Students who have demonstrated a commitment to community service, maintained a 2.75 GPA, have a SAT score of 1400 or ACT of 19 or above, and exhibit financial need are eligible to apply.  Applications are available online at (click on ASBC Foundation) and must be submitted by April 19, 2008.

The Epilepsy Foundation of the Chesapeake Region is accepting applications for the Ira Rosenzwog Scholarship for students with epilepsy.  Applications are available online at epilepsy- and must be submitted by April 20, 2008. 

The Federal Water Quality Association will award three-four $1500-$2000 scholarships to students interested in majoring in science or engineering.  Selection will be based on academic achievement, leadership/community service, level of commitment to environmental protection, and overall presentation.  Applications must be received by April 21, 2008.

Student Insights is offering the 2008 Student-View Scholarship Program to students.  Scholarships ranging from $500-$3000 will be awarded to students.  Students must log on to student- and complete a 15-20 minute application survey about colleges in the area.  The deadline to complete the survey is April 22, 2008. 

The Washington Regional Transplant Consortium will award a $3000 and a $1000 scholarship to students who participate in the “Legacy of Life” competition.  Information is available online at .  Applications and entries must be submitted by April 27, 2008. 

The League at AT&T Foundation is offering scholarships to gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender students who will be attending a two or four year college or university.  Students must have at least a 3.0 GPA, be actively involved in community service, and identify him/herself as gay.  Applications must be postmarked by April 30, 2008 and are available on the web at . 

The Prince George’s County Municipal Association is offering scholarships to students who have at least a 2.0 GPA and have a commitment to public service.  Applications can be downloaded at laurel.md.us/scholarships.htm and must be submitted by April 30, 2008. 

The American Legion Post 60 of Laurel, MD announces its Annual Scholarship Program for students living in the Laurel area.  Three $2000 scholarships will be awarded to students.  Applications are available in the career center and must be received by April 30, 2008.

The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising awards over $300,000 in scholarships.  Six students who demonstrate an exceptional talent and interest in Fashion Design, Visual Communications, Interior Design, Digital media, Fashion Merchandising, or Graphic Design will win a one-year scholarship to attend FIDM.  The deadline for the competition is April 30, 2008.  Fore more information visit fidm.edu or call 800-262-3436.  

The Walter E. Johnson Foundation, Inc is accepting applications for their $250 scholarship.  Students must pursue a career in religion, business, political science, education, medicine, healthcare, music, and law.  Students must have been accepted to college and have a 3.0 GPA, however it is encouraged for students who have tremendously improved, and have a desire to attend college but have less than a 3.0 GPA to apply.  Applications must be submitted by April 30, 2008 and are available online at .

The Rotary Club of Laurel will award two scholarships in the amount of $500-$800.  Applicants will be judged and selected on the basis of scholarship need, character, personality, and evidence of good citizenship.  Applications must be submitted by April 30, 2008.

The DC Chapter of the National Hampton Alumni Association, Inc. announces its annual scholarship based on extracurricular activities, community involvement, and merit.  Applications are available at and must be postmarked by April 30, 2008. 

All Students:  The Kohl’s Kids Who Care Program provides Kohl’s an annual opportunity to recognize and reward kids who volunteer in their communities.  Any adult can nominate students.  Each store will have one winner from each age group.  Each regional winner will be awarded a $1000 scholarship and each National winner will be awarded a $5000 scholarship.  Nominations must be submitted by March 15, 2008.  Nomination forms are available online at . 

Juniors and Seniors:  Applications are being accepted for the 2008 Rachel Carson Scholar Program.  Applicants must have an interest in the natural world, has taken an active role in community based environmental stewardship activities and has a strong academic record.  Applications are available online at and must be submitted by March 14, 2008. 

Earn $1000 a month while still in high school.  Enlist in the Army today and you could start earning $1000 every month and a $1000 HS graduation bonus.  Add the money above to an enlistment bonus (up to $40,000) plus up to $73,836 for education through the Army College Fund and Montgomery GI Bill.  For more information contact your local recruiter, Staff Sgt. College Prowler and Wachovia has partnered to bring students a $1000 monthly scholarship.  Scholarships will be awarded to students that submit the best college application essay.  To submit your essay, go to the_scholarship.asp. Essays are due February 29, 2008 and March 31, 2008.  

Fashion Institute of Technology Presidential Scholars Program offers specially designed honors liberal arts courses.  Students also receive a $500 annual stipend.  Applications must be submitted by March 19 for Bachelor’s degree program and March 12, 2008 for the associate’s degree program.  For more information, visit fitnyc.edu/honors. 

The American Association of Blacks in Energy Washington D.C. Metro Chapter will award six scholarships in the amount of $3000.  Students must have at least a “B” average overall and a “B” average in science and mathematics courses, plan to major in engineering, mathematics, or the physical sciences, demonstrate financial need, and be a member of an underrepresented minority group in the sciences and related areas of technology.   For more information visit the website at .  Applications must be submitted by March 14, 2008. 

The Prince George’s County Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc. will award scholarships up to $2500 to students who demonstrate financial need, academic achievement (at least a 3.0), and service to the community and/or school and submit an essay.  Applications are available online at and must be postmarked by March 14, 2008. 

The Hispanic Scholarship Fund is designed to assist students of Hispanic heritage obtain a college degree.  Award amounts range from $1000-$5000.  Students must have at least a 3.0 GPA, be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.  Applications are available online at and must be submitted by March 15, 2008. 

The American Postal Workers Union, AFL-CIO is accepting applications for two of their scholarship programs:  E.C. Hallbeck Memorial Scholarship Program for students who are the children or grandchildren of an active member, retiree, or deceased member of the American Postal Workers Union and the Vocational Scholarship Program worth $3000 for students interested in programs of study leading to a trade, technical, industrial, or vocational occupations.  Applications can be downloaded at dept/sec-treas/stscholarships.htm and must be postmarked by March 15, 2008.

The Maryland PTA offers scholarships of $300 to high school graduates who plan to pursue a career in the public schools of Maryland.  Selection will be based on scholarship achievement, financial need, community involvement, character, and local PTA sponsorship.  Applications are available online at under forms and must be postmarked by March 15, 2008.      

The Kesi Gilford Reynaud Memorial Foundation is accepting applications for their $1500 scholarship program.  Students must have demonstrated financial need and have at least a 2.5 GPA.  Applications must be submitted by March 15, 2008. 

Ladies of Imani Scholarship for Excellence will award a $1000 scholarship for students.  Students must have at least a 3.0 GPA and submit an essay of no more than 100 words on “What influential person living or dead would you most like to have a conversation with? What would be the question and why?”  Applications are available online at and must be submitted by March 23, 2007.  

The Naval Officers’ Wives Club of Washington, DC offers merit scholarships to seniors who are dependent children of active duty, retired, or deceased U.S. Navy service members.  Applications must be submitted by March 27, 2008. 

The Maryland Association of Private Colleges and Career Schools Scholarship Program is accepting applications from students who will attend a MAPCS career school (i.e. Lincoln Tech) in the fall of 2008.  Over $245,225 worth of scholarships will be awarded.  Applications are available online at scholarships.html and must be submitted by March 28, 2008.   

The Asian American Journalist Association is accepting applications for the Mary Moy Quan Ing Memorial scholarship valued at $2000.  Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders who plan to pursue journalism in college are eligible to attend.  Applications are available online at and must be submitted by March 28, 2008

The Federal Employee Education and Assistance Fund is sponsoring a scholarship for current civilian federal or postal employees and their dependent family members.  All applicants must have at least a 3.0 GPA.  Applications are available on the web at and must be submitted by March 28, 2008.

The National Association of Hispanic Journalists NHSF Scholarship committee is accepting applications from Hispanic students who will major in journalism or pursue a major in communications.  Scholarships ranging from $1000-$2000 will be awarded.  Applications are available online at and must be submitted by March 31, 2008. 

Minority high school seniors who demonstrate high achievement with a minimum of 21 on the ACT and 1000 on the SAT, leadership potential, and financial need are eligible to apply for the Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholarship valued at up to $7200 annually.  Applications are available online at apply and must be submitted by March 31, 2008. 

The Thurgood Marshall Scholarship Fund offers scholarships to students who have at least a 3.0 GPA, have a combined score of 1100 on the SAT, and who have been accepted to a participating college or university.  To be considered for a scholarship, students must contact the participating school’s scholarship coordinator and submit an application to them.  More information is available on the web at .

The Washington Area Joint Apprenticeship Committee’s electrical apprenticeship program is looking for those students with an aptitude for math and science.  Apprentices select a three or five year program and earn pay and benefits while in class and during supervised on the job training.  Apprentices can earn from $41,000 to $73,000 per year.  Information can be found online at .  Classes begin in July/August and applications must be received by April 2008.  Additionally, contractors are always looking for truck drivers and warehouse workers as well as various other positions.   

The University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill has announced a plan to expand the Carolina Covenant, a program that enables low-income students to attend UNC debt-free.  Admitted students with a family income at or below 200 percent of the federal poverty level can attend UNC if they work 10-12 hours a week in a federal work-study job.  To learn more, visit unc.edu/carolinacovenant.
