JOB TITLE: Systems Engineer

NATURE OF POSITION: Permanent, full-time role @ 37.5 hours per week

SALARY/RANGE: $62,000 - $72,000 gross per annum

CONDITIONS OF SERVICE: EIT Hawke’s Bay Allied Staff Collective Employment Agreement or EIT Hawke’s Bay Allied Staff Individual Employment Agreement

SCOPE: To support, manage and develop key Information Technology Systems to meet the needs of its users and EIT as a whole.

KEY TASKS

SYSTEM SUPPORT & MAINTENANCE

• To provide system support and information relating to EIT’s information systems to all sections of the institute as required

• To develop and manage appropriate business continuity plans relating to key information systems

• Provide incident and problem management as assigned via the service desk.

• To ensure that information systems are properly maintained and that no disruptions to these systems occur due to poor management or implementation

• To implement and manage appropriate performance and availability monitoring for key information systems

• Maintain computer systems.

• Ensure change control is followed.

• Complete on call as rostered

SYSTEM DEVELOPMENT

• Complete system design process by engaging proactively with business owners to ensure that technical solutions meet business needs.

• Complete analysis of proposals and complete technical and business documentation supporting new system implementations.

• Complete implementation of new systems.

• Complete project management tasks.

• Relationship management with key business users and vendors.

• Complete management reporting.

TEAM BUILDING

• Foster information sharing within IT Services and between staff and groups who are using information technology.

• Deliver cross training to other staff in IT Services.

• Actively contribute towards a positive culture in IT Services

GENERAL

• Perform necessary computer related documentation duties

• Review own job description annually with the Systems Delivery Team Leader and work through appraisal process

• Ensure that all activities reflect the philosophy and procedures of the Institute’s QMS

• Contribute to Corporate Services as a team member and attend Corporate Services Section and other Institute meetings as required

• Negotiate professional development plan with Systems Delivery Team Leader

• Attend relevant courses to update job skills where required

• Implement Institute policies and procedures as appropriate

• Undertake other duties that may from time to time be agreed with Systems Delivery Team Leader

• Promote a safe IT work environment through compliance with the Institute’s Health and Safety policy and procedures

PERSON SPECIFICATION

POSITION: Systems Engineer, IT Services

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

• Strong systems administration skills:

o Windows operating systems, including Active Directory.

o Microsoft server systems, such as Microsoft 365, Microsoft Azure, Exchange, Teams, and SQL.

o TCP/IP networks, including firewalls, wireless and managed switches.

o Database Design, Analysis and Management Skills including practical SQL experience.

• Some or all the following technical skills are also highly desirable:

o Apple Mac environment.

o Server and Storage hardware.

o Linux operating systems

o VMware and Veeam.

• Methodical and analytical problem-solving skills

• Knowledge of tertiary or similar information systems is preferred.

• Good project management skills and the ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks efficiently.

SPECIAL APTITUDES:

• Excellent communication skills and well developed inter-personal skills

• Ability to describe complex technical tasks in simple language

• An ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines

• Ability to quickly adapt and learn new skills/technologies

• Empathy with and appreciation of Maori language and culture

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Relevant tertiary qualification and or industry qualifications are preferred
