Live Streaming: Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is Live Streaming?Live Streaming video?is content sent in compressed form over the Internet and displayed by the viewer in real time. With?streaming video?or streaming?media, a Web user does not have to wait to download a file to play it. Instead, the media is sent in a continuous?stream?of data and is played as it arrives. Why is NASW-MA adding the Live Streaming option to its In-Person, Live CE Presentations? For years, NASW-MA has been searching for ways to provide CE courses throughout Massachusetts, to meet the needs of our members, and other social workers, who live in remote areas, have too long a drive to attend half-day or even full-day programs, do not have transportation, or are home-bound for any reason. Finally, technology has caught up with the needs of our members. We are also pleased to provide our in-person programs via live streaming to NASW members, and other social workers, throughout the Untied States. Why does Live Streaming cost the same as the In-Person, Live CE Presentation?Whether in-person or streamed, the cost of the speakers, venue, and audio visual equipment at the venue is the same. NASW-MA CE programs nearly always include a continental breakfast and, for a full-day program, lunch. While we do not provide breakfast or lunch for those individuals live-streaming the program, NASW-MA does have to pay for a videographer and the technology company supplying the live streaming capability. The cost of meals versus technology is about the same; thus the same registration fees are the same. How will I know what to do in order to Live Stream the CE presentation from my computer? A week prior to the CE program, you will receive a second confirmation email with complete instructions for testing your system prior to the actual program. You must complete this process to ensure that everything is working correctly. You will also receive the contact information for a “help-desk” that will be available for your test and if you have problems during the actual live streaming program. Will there be a call-in phone number I can use to listen to the audio?Unfortunately, no. Audio will be emitted thru your computer speakers only. Please be sure to login and test your system prior to the event. Will I be able to participate in discussion and ask questions?Yes. You will be able to enter the discussion or ask questions by sending an email; instructions will be provided. NASW-MA will have a volunteer, intern or staff person sitting at a laptop in the presentation room taking comments and/or questions and putting them in a queue along with live comments and questions. They will be verbalized in the order they are received, at the appropriate time during the presentation, only if the comment or question has not already been expressed, and of course, time permitting. Will I be able to take notes while watching the live presentation and presentation slides?Yes. You will be able to type notes right on the screen while you watch and listen. At the end of the presentation you will be able to send your notes to your email. How will NASW-MA know that I have attended the entire Live Streaming Presentation? As all Licensed Social Workers in Massachusetts know, in order to receive a CE Certificate for a live, in-person program, one must attend 100% of the program, as per the rules set by the Massachusetts Board of Registration of Social Workers. That is the primary reason that NASW-MA does not stamp CE Certificates until the very end of its programs. In order to comply with the 100% attendance mandate of the Board of Registration, the Live Streamed Presentations will include randomly shown code letters throughout the full length of the program. Five (5) letters will be randomly displayed on the upper corner of the screen (highlighted and bold) and clearly stating to write down each code letter in order. Each code letter will be repeated 2-3 times, and displayed for one (1) minute, so that no one will be penalized for a bathroom break or other very brief interruption. After you have filled out the Program Evaluation, you will be prompted to write the code letters in order. Once you enter the code letters, you will receive, and be able to print out (or email to yourself), the signed CE Certificate. Some States have the same CE regulations as Massachusetts, and some are different. All social workers participating in the live streaming of this program will have to comply with the standards outlined above. Please check your State’s CE regulations to ensure that these standards either meet, or exceed, those of your State. Also check that CEs from Massachusetts are accepted by your State’s Board of Registration of Social Workers (or similar social work licensing authority). How will I fill out the Program Evaluation and get my CE certificate? At the end of the presentation, you will be prompted to fill out the online Program Evaluation (the same evaluation that in-person participants receive, plus a 2-3 questions about the live streaming experience). You MUST fill out the evaluation in order to receive the next prompt to write the code letters in order. Once you enter the code letters, you will receive, and be able to print out (or email to yourself), the signed CE Certificate. IMPORTANT NOTE: If you cannot or do not enter the correct code, in the correct order, you will NOT be able to receive your CE Certificate and there will be NO REFUND. No exceptions will be made.
