Specific Details Paragraph

Specific Details Paragraph

A specific details paragraph develops through the use of many examples which develop and provide evidence for a point. This type of paragraph relies on very specific details which illustrate the point the writer is making. It has

▪ One clear point expressed in a topic sentence

▪ Several very specific examples which illustrate the point

▪ A conclusion which restates, summarizes, or otherwise ends the paragraph

Look at the difference:

Paragraph 1

One reason to have a dog is that you will learn responsibility. Taking care of a dog will make you responsible. It will make you pay attention to what a dog needs and learn to provide what the dog needs. When you do this, you will be more responsible. So, if you want to learn to be more responsible, get a dog.

Paragraph 2

One advantage of having a dog is the responsibility you’ll gain as you do what you need to do in order to take care of the dog’s needs. Regularly checking his food and water bowls for proper nutrition is just the beginning of taking care of him. The dog also needs regular shots, medicine, and grooming, such as brushing, washing, and checking him for fleas and ticks. You’ll also have to take responsibility for providing him with a safe, warm place to sleep. And, as his owner, you’ll have to be the one to get up with him in the middle of the night when he starts to whine, whimper, or wander through the house. Getting up out of a warm bed to take care of a lonely little puppy might be very difficult – but you’ll learn to do it because you’ll be gaining something more important than sleep: you’ll be gaining a sense of responsibility.
